My year around bonsai work in the Inland Empire, CA

I will head up to SF area this afternoon to visit my brother there. I will collect some redwood there!

One of my colleagues gave me a bag of redwood seeds few months ago. I planted the seeds on 7/17/16. Last night I found the 1st one coming up! I am very excited!

I've had my eye out for a big chunky crepe myrtle the last few years so I'm very jealous!

Bonhe,

As far as growing pomegranates for edible fruit, do you prefer the 'seedless' varieties or something else such as the grociery store 'wonderful'? I am considering the plantation sweet pom as well.

Thanks for asking, JoeR.
I prefer the seedless one. You can see this link https://www.fourwindsgrowers.com/fruit-trees-vines-and-berries/pomegranates.html . It has "Sweet" name, I believe.
A lot of my colleague told me that they liked it because it had clear non-stain juice! It is very sweet and we don't have to deal with hard big seeds. Besides, it creates the arching shape itself in 6 -7 years. It looks beautiful in the yard.

This pomegranate cutting is ready to be exposed to the world today. It is almost 4 months from the cutting time. It has a lot of new shoots coming out every where on the trunk.

What is the problem? Do I need to worry about?

It is placed into the shady place for now. The temperature will be around 100 degrees F today. It is better safe than sorry.

Thank you very much for your thought Thunbless.
You are almost correct. If you pay attention to the needle, you will see the brownish parts mostly in the bottom of the needles and extending outward. I should have given you a hint. This part is facing to the extensive sunlight.
It is not a damage caused by insect. It is sign of sunburn! I will not worry about. No treatment is needed, but I could move the tree to the site with less extensive sunlight.
I am in the process to update the diagnostic chart. Again, thank you for your word. :)

Looks like self-pruning, maybe some heat stress to the roots.
Thanks for your thought.
I don't think heat stress to the roots because it has been in the shady area and the pot is rather big for this tree. Besides, it received lot of humidity inside the bag at all time.

This Brazilian raintree was needed to be trimmed back this morning. This tree has been aggressively growing in my area. This is the third time of trimming since Spring.

I can not wait to see it in the bonsai pot this winter!

I decided to make cuttings today. Let see what happens!

This mini pomegranate has only one fruit yearly. I won't trim the long branches back at this time.
