Hi ,

Staying at friend’s at Naperville for a week and wondering if there’s any bonsai shops I could visit in and around Chicago ?

I come from a state (Minnesota) that sadly has no bonsai shops what so ever and hence wanna at least take this opportunity to visit a true bonsai shop .

Regards,
Abhishek

Any chance do you know if we need appointment for a visit ?

This time of year, best to call for their hours. They are also a small nursery but that portion closes down for the winter. I believe they keep the bonsai section open year round though.

If you go there, there are easy to get to being off a major expressway...but they hide around a blind corner: hence Hidden Garden ;) There's a good chance you'll drive right past them the first time.

You might also see if you can get an appointment at BC Bonsai

I've been to Hidden Gardens a couple of times. I found them heavy on the conifers with some nice larger material...pretty raw though. I was less impressed with the deciduous trees.

I haven't been to BC Bonsai yet.

Thank you ! I visited BC Bonsai and the owner was so gracious to take me around in their basement and hoop houses . Really best stuffs to see but sadly all trees were huddled up for winter storage . So very difficult to make sense of trunk and branching .

I did see some red and white chojibais which I absolutely love but a little pricey for my taste and what they were . Around 300-400 for each . I might have to come back in spring

I'd recommend going to Hidden Gardens in Willowbrook if you're looking to find a yamadori tree and expect to pay hundreds/thousands of dollars for a quality tree haha. They're open Friday- Sunday during the winter, I'd give them a call to confirm.

BC Bonsai is also worth checking out.

I would just like to see what’s available . Yes, am interested for Yamadori if it’s something that am interested in .

Glad that worked out for you!

I've never been there myself despite them being just down the road from one of my kids :(
