Victorim thanks. Glad you like the tree. Because of its size and weight it will be not easy for me to move it to take a better photo of it against a plain background as I do for most of my other trees. At some point I will do so but probably not anytime soon.

Getting too old for many big trees, but it's hard to resist them.

a 12 inch trunk and is about 3 feet tall.
No one knows where the training is going to go, and it has been left to re-build the root system.
Probably over 50 years old.

Well, if you can't take the tree to the background,
you've got to bring the background to the tree!

Redwood Ryan posted a better pic of this tree at Gardens Unlimited. "The Emperor" Chinese elm in the center/right of this picutre weighs a ton, literally. To repot it, they have to bring in a forklift or backhoe to lift it out of the pot, suspend it air and comb out the roots. They also have to build a plywood and plastic house around it every winter for protection because it won't fit through the door of the cold greenhouse and it's dangerous for the people moving it, not to mention the tree. For scale, the bench it is on is almost waist high
