What is a fair price for shohin trees

It is a lot better if you now what your talking about when talking to the seller. You have more to haggle about. For example. I once bought a $1800 nursery stock 25 foot tall bald cypress for $100 because I educationally explained to the manager that no one wold buy the tree because the top 5 foot was dead. No regular homeowner wants to buy a tree to plant in their yard with the top five feet of it dead. I just wanted to chop it and did. Even with nice bonsai if you have a working no ledge of what makes a tree good and bad you can get to a better price. If you can not its worth what they are asking or pass on the tree.

I think we are talking about 2 different things. I am talking about eBay...you are face to face with the vendor and can see/inspect the plant. Very different.

True with any transaction you can get screwed. Ask for recommendations. For eBay I recommend
3017smith. You get quality trees from Brussels stock.

Banshoubonsai as a seller on eBay.
Nothing there now but Brian who posts here sells trees at times. Very respected.

Muranaka bonsai. Great grower out of Cali others could back me up, but I'm pretty sure he's awesome. Check out his weekly blog. His seller I'd is mbn1978.

Wigertsbonsainurery ( 1242) name says enough. If you looking for tropicals on eBay. That's the seller name

My point is they are there. Just dig a little deeper. They are there. Sorry if a missed any great nurserys selling on eBay. Just did not come to mind right now. don blackwood posts trees sometimes. I just can not find his username. He has some great trees. None posted right now

Sure....I'll take it out of the pot...whats it worth?

WELL...
Not to start a more complex argument on a semantic basis and the meaning of worth...

I'll give you forty bucks and drive down 5 to pick it up;)

No insult meant, not too much of a jest either.

worth in my case is bounded much more by economic reality than a passion for little trees growing in pots.

plus {(maybe the other twenty somethings here will agree) and god willing} ive got time to grow my own

I don't care about pots so unglazed earthen ware is my thing. Pots add nothing for me. The tree is the value for me. Sorry if one is selling In expensive pot. That's not what I'm buying.

If you are looking for trees in the fourty dollar range then I have lots of those. Since you are coming south, I expect you will be making the convention in Sac?

If not then maybe it might be wise to make the bonsai swapmeet in Fresno Dec. first. You can find directions at the GSBF web site under calender.

I have some little leaf elms. These are about 8 years old. Have 1 inch trunks and about 5 inches tall. The leaves are about 3/16 inch and very small. Not Hokkaido, not Sieju, and not catlan.

Drake elm with very small leaves.

What might these be worth to someone. I think these have the potential to be something really great in the right hands.....maybe mine!

I like the elm on the right.. A nice proud curve to the trunk. Not a lot of spare change around at the moment as I am contemplating a change in real estate.

Really, Drake with that small and dark a leaf. Nice material.

Smoke,
Will you accept 10 bucks for both? Do they have colorful or fragrant flowers? If not I don't want them.

I agree but others whose opinion I respect say this seller is on the high side. As someone still trying to learn how to pick the right tree that has potential to be good versus one that does not, I think this seller generally picks out the better trees from Brussell's. If I think this seller has picked a better tree than I might on my own, isn't that worth $$ in the price at least to me.

Yes! Brian's trees are always very nice but unfortunately for me (great for Brian), the bidding usually drives the price up beyond what I am comfortable paying.

George Muranaka is great. I would like to visit his nursery personally as I have a feeling he has much better trees in the nursery than he sells on ebay.

His shipping and packing is phenominal.

Agreed, I bought a few JBP and Trident Maple from him...very reasonably priced. Coming from a bargain shopper like me, that is saying something. :o He also (sometimes) offer discounts on multiple purchases (not just the shipping). Nice guy.

My first bonsai is purchased through eBay (3017smith) and I am also very pleased with that.
