What did you do today? Show us Pic Required

Trident buds have begun to open so I spent a few hours assessing and potting up field grown trees.
Got through most of the tridents,

also crabs, Japanese maples and prunus cerasifera.

More to do.
And then still need to prepare the beds and replant the ones that didn't make the grade this time and some new ones to fill the spaces.

In fact there is a small bamboo forest inside my property, which makes things so much easier!
I found bamboo today to make into chopsticks
Like the tree thread, a pic required w/each post. Just for fun.
I thought it would be a fun thread for everyone to post what the did today regarding their Bonsai collection, along the lines of the tree thread where a pic is required or it didn't happen w/your post. Before and after even better but not required.
Show us what you did with your bonsai today.
Today, much like every day, I took the action of inaction.

After 5 months of learning and growing in bonsai and now feeling the compulsion to do something every day, I realize this mindset and desire can lead to killing trees with love. The only I action I perform outside of seasonal and necessary actions on the trees is placing them at a front open window for morning sun, and then back outside until the following morning.

I also wonder if people who have a plethora of trees and the same desire feel an additional need to “work” on trees. Is the need ever fully satisfied?

I can say.. With 200+ trees and NOT retired.. I am happy to ignore my trees every once in a while, to then dig around in the weeds to find the trunk again.

Why? Inside in VA? Even the most sissy tropical should be out 24/7 this time of year.

Trying to figure out what is eating the leaves on my silver maple.IMG_20230809_124837613.jpg

Started to liquid fertilize everything, wife took over the sink.
Went out to apply granular fertilizer on everything, and stopped when I got to this p. nigra to share a little love and remove a bit of downwards growing, and dead needles, and clean up some deadwood.
This one was potted up Spring '22 so had not touched it since.

Yes, I bring them inside to an open window with abundant morning sun, heat, and oxygen. It’s worth it to me to not run the A/C for the sake of the morning sunlight. I agree with the basic concept of “just because it works doesn’t mean it’s right or necessary,” but I’m content with the growth and health. Extra sunlight with no risk to health is okay with me. 100%

Trimmed up a boxwood. Painted the back porch to match the newer bonsai benches.IMG_20230809_154513033_HDR.jpgIMG_20230809_154447557_HDR.jpgIMG_20230809_155756294_HDR.jpgIMG_20230806_133824380.jpg
This ugly color looks like orange was supposed to be redwood.

Thanks to @19Mateo83 for the shout out to meet up for an October Glory Red Maple. We met up at a local nursery and one tree turned into five trees, haha!

I slip potted the Red Maple into a 3-gal as I want it for a landscape tree or maybe a big bonsai. I also up potted the Tulip Magnolia. I have a spot in mind for that one too. I gave a Jbp, and kishu sapling, a pot, and an all surface permanent marker.

Cheers!
It was awesome finally getting to meet you, good times. We’re gonna have to get together again soon when we have more time for tree talk. How were the roots on the October glory? It hasnt been separated too long but I know they grow roots super fast. Also, If you want a larger saucer magnolia for your landscape I have one 3 or 4 foot tall you are more than welcome to have. I need to put some more layers on my mother tree. 😉

You are very generous!
The October Glory had several roots all the way to the bottom of the one gallon pot so it was rocking.
I might take you up on that offer. Looking forward to next time

Below is my first bonsai, the good old procumbens cascade.

I cleaned up this Dwarf Alberta Spruce yesterday. Biggest change was cutting the top off to build more taper as the tree continues to grow. I also cut a lot of the branches with the goal of getting some back budding. Hoping to get more appropriately size branches with the new shoots in the future. I also did some fiber pulling on the now dead apex.
