I went to my local nursery with the idea of just to see what was available this time of year. Ended up walking home with 3 cryptomeria. I was originally going to leave them tall so that I can try to airlayer them come spring, but they toppled over in the lightest of breezes we had today.

I left them a little tall as I would want to repot them first in order to see what I am working with. The soil is pretty densely packed so I couldn't excavate the soil. I basically cut the branches back to a "rough yet logical" point and shortened long running shoots. I planted the tops to see if I can get them to root next growing season.

My favorite time of year is discount tree time!
A local nursery I love does a 50% off parking lot sale starting in September every year. I got a Japanese maple for the yard only $80

Love the end of season sales as well. Picked up a Shishigashira and wisteria to play with. Probably an air layer for the Shishigashira in the spring and I’ll separate the wisteria, it’s two plants, and use one for my lamp post in the yard and the other has the beginning of an interesting trunk so I’ll pot that one up.

Pulled the trigger on a chojubai from Bob Pressler/Kimura Bonsai. I will be not so patiently awaiting its delivery from across the continent. (Photo from the nursery as I don’t have the plant yet)

BTW… the experience so far has been great. Prompt responses to my questions and plenty of additional photos were provided when I asked for more views than were shown on the website. I’ll do a full review once I have the tree in hand but I’m pretty impressed so far.

nejikan twisted Japanese pomegranate from house of bonsai in Lakewood. She has about 4 left if anyone wants one

I'm interested in that pot it's in.super wide rim kinda unconventional

didnt do this today but i bought a pomegranate from the supermarket about 2 weeks ago and planted all of the seeds. im not sure how these forest clumps will turn out in the end, but i like to think that i can make a forest or a clump out of the ones that dont die off in the future. its a fun side project with minimal consequences for me since i already have too many pomegranates going.
