My trunk splits are all alive. The BCs look really good. The Mayhaw is growing slowly though. I haven't seen much healing on the Mayhaw. Next spring I will remove the wedges on all the split trees.almost everything died or is dying....
moral of the story: don't try this at home
( unless you live in a tropical jungle)
Works just fine, used this process on an ezo spruce with great results. process was suggested by David Degroot during a workshop.Reduction trunk split for better taper?
I am thinking about drilling out the top of a tree, then cut out inverse triangles slices from the top. Then I will squeeze the remaining parts back together to form a good taper. Doable with BCs? I tried to reduce an inverse taper using trunk split with Rainbow eucalyptus and failed miserably.
Wow! Very interested in the progress.
Yeh ive seen it done on a Hornbeam tooWorks just fine, used this process on an ezo spruce with great results. process was suggested by David Degroot during a workshop.

This tree has also been chosen for a bottom trunk split very soon.
Allowing this tree to completely heal will take a while. I am now wondering if I should carve it and hollow it out.Tree unwrapped this morning at top. Top soil above root flare removed and wedges driven in further. Looking good.
