My thought is, try figures of a size that’s easy to handle, to get the process, then “shrink” — and cheat a little, hit the library for something like this (which even covers making push-molds for faces!):The only time I attempted FIGURE work.. it was a great struggle with no results...

I made a headboard out of hickory a couple of years ago. Book matched live edge slabs ~6' long. Once I joined them I can't get the image of a death shroud in the grain pattern out of my head! Not really the image you want a headboard to project![]()
