It’s funny that you bring up Warren Zevon... I used to play a cover of “carmelita” when I was doing the “running around, playing music”-gig.
I appreciate those bottom shots..
The only time I attempted FIGURE work.. it was a great struggle with no results...

Thanks! It’s been fun finding them — none of them were expensive, and most were in odd-lot batches that went begging awhile on eBay.

My thought is, try figures of a size that’s easy to handle, to get the process, then “shrink” — and cheat a little, hit the library for something like this (which even covers making push-molds for faces!):

I can pretty much get clay to “do what i want” now... it’s just gonna take doing it more.. to get the proportions and angles JUST so.

And proportions is what the books will have — that one gives a clear idea of volumes to use and lengths to cut, so that heads, torsos, and limbs are consistent for adult men & women, and children —
There’s another author, Katherine Dewey, who has one on making sculptural figures of people (haven’t seen, but ordered & will report) and one on animals. They’re older, too, so libraries have them (in my case, no/yes).
—No, I haven’t made anything yet, but the time will come!—

I made a headboard out of hickory a couple of years ago. Book matched live edge slabs ~6' long. Once I joined them I can't get the image of a death shroud in the grain pattern out of my head! Not really the image you want a headboard to project

My guy spilled bleach on his black jeans and still wears em...got the image of a woman in a 1920's ish tight but poofy dress with an umbrella, the big hat. I'll get a pic!

Slow the ..
Do try to go slow through 1000-1200 for quartz inversion. Keep it oxegenated well through the end and don't be afraid to hold a couple times to get your impurities burnt out.
