Terra Cotta: My musings on...and resulting actions with.

So.. brushing glaze on the greenware ended up causing strange shrinkage and cracking on one of the pieces... so i stopped to re-assess.

I possibly didn’t wait long enough in between Coats... considering that EACH time.. a portion of water is absorbed into the greenware.. further and further beyond the surface.. yup.. that’s probably what did it.

Gotta keep β€˜em separated..

Ummm.. a buddy of mine just showed up with this... dug from his backyard...

He lives 5 city blocks from me..

Thanks!!

The thing is... based on geographical surveys (from damn near 100 years ago)... THIS kind of clay DOESN’T exist here...

So I’m skeptical, yet possibly excited...

Gotta get out the GOOD microscope and see if it IS actually even clay.. and not some other, deep-ground mineral.

TF!?
The other been inactive for a month too.

Got some Georgia Red clay!

I was sitting behind the hotel on this cliff,

When this dude walked up to my Jeep and tried to get in it, he could not see me, but I could see him!

Turns out he was on some shit and thought my black Jeep was his Light Grey shorter rounder SUvehicle, which he took off in shortly after, swervily.

Georgia....Georrrrgiaaaa!

HLF has been sidelined working on his badassery skills lately. Grueling work. One thing at a time, folks, that's the key.

Also...
Have a great birthday!πŸ₯³πŸŽ‚
I need to pay more attention.
Happy birthday, dude!

I forgot that I used to collect these....

I’m thinking this would be a neat direction for my low-fire projects...

I’m sketching some chess pieces with low-fire aspirations, as well...

I also have started working on my low-fire/bisque wood-fire kiln again... I will be constructing the second β€œtop flat” today or tomorrow.. then when that piece is properly β€œin place”, I can begin construction on the chimney chamber/chimney!

I think I'm weird or nuts or something.
My only interest in making pottery is so that I don't have to buy it. Kilns, on the other hand, are apparently so much more fascinating than what goes in or comes out of them. I spent like three hours yesterday reading on building backyard kilns. Couldn't care less about clay, but man do I want a kiln!

Another one down the rabbit hole!

Haven't been here, to my low-fire thread in a while....

But we processed a little bit of Local clay, recently.. the idea was to work on prototype Ouroboros clay stamps which I could fire in my low-fire, wood-fired kiln.

I'm better at processing clay now... and I wasn't too bad before..

So I'm all done with moist work on my first prototype. I had to go much... "simpler" with my design.. considering the PURPOSE.

Looking forward to sanding/finishing this.

And Theeeeeen...

There was some left over from the "Bead Clay Chunk".

So I quick whipped up a little accent pot. (Also local clay)
