Terra Cotta: My musings on...and resulting actions with.

Making more ashes.. the firebox is done. Y’know I DID miss the “wood-fired” view.B30148AB-5E76-444B-AC30-C3B85FF1DF32.jpeg049E7174-837E-40BA-9D3A-0F8FD5ECAC3F.jpeg
Also.. considering the ware chamber and chimney aren’t existent yet, THIS is a REALLY good thing! (It’s understandable if you’re like, “Whaaa?”.. but if you know, you know. 🤣)55BF69BD-B3E6-4D5D-AE00-A3D6AE2D9EDD.jpeg

About ready to cast my first few (test) “inner bricks”.. trying to keep the “clay” balance Light... and rely on grog/charcoal for structure (more retention, less transfer than clay) and wood-ash for MASSIVE retention/insulation.. the “outer” bricks.. or shell will be quite heavy in select particulate-separated/meshed Riverbottom Mud and heavy in Wood Ash, while still relying on parts of grog/charcoal and clay for function.70E2E72D-9F76-47CE-8C0D-0666132FC274.jpeg
I ALSO realized that using those two blocks on the front lid of the firebox (pictured, most recently in post #761 🤣) was STUPID... for multiple reasons...

..The most important being the physics of heat and airflow.

So I’ll leave it at that. 🤣🤣

Seeing how much work you put in — gathering & processing clay, building & improving your kiln — I’m really looking forward to the time when you’re satisfied with your set-up & can settle down to the business of making everything you can dream up — it’s bound to be amazing, especially when you start using your structures & figures in landscapes!

…speaking of structures & figures, I haven’t forgotten that I owe you more pics… Coming Soon To A Thread Near You…

Thank you!!

I will be making a trip Southward on Sunday. To interface with Sorce!... or inter-Sorces-face! 🤣 Picking up a kiln shell and many other “things” to help FURTHER my dive.

Pretty damn excited.. to be blatantly honest!

🤓

You know it's going down!

We will certainly see sound cone 6 pots coming out the forest soon!

Cuz there's no better reason to stay keeping an eye on the gas kiln while the woodfire kiln is getting stoked!

Speaking of getting stoked!

My most recent temper mix... some materials I’m becoming fond of.. including the charcoal/grog duo (wild at first... but great control over plasticity once you learn the parameters) as well as Bone Ash... And Slab Ash (actually my CURRENT material “to learn”).

The moon — it’s made of Bleu Cheese!

I like cheese, and tiny trees.
Chillin by the burning kiln and hearing about the exploits of grog and charcoal would be cool.

the exploits of grog and charcoal
Hmmm… well, I meant that the round (magnified?) image was moon-like…

But now you’ve introduced characters, and I wonder “Who ARE Grog and Charcoal, and what do they get up to?” Which maybe you could answer in a series of little clay figures… 😁

2 bricks of 2 batches... after some time on “warm” they’ll go out and take a lil’ flame... and I will observe how they act/react.

In theory, they should both behave quite similarly... the batch on the right having a SLIGHTLY higher transfer.. but also half as time-consuming to fabricate materials for, so we shall see.
