Terra Cotta: My musings on...and resulting actions with.

But i only turn it on when I’m checking...
This might be why.

I just leave mine on and it's been good for ....a few! though I replaced it once cuz the old one fell down into a shelf post in the garage. f that one!

4 hour check in was 608F...

So still climbing... feeling better about this fire now.

And i still cannot get good readings.. I have to “futz” with the wires to get the highest reading... and with this.. it’s impossible to know where I am struggling... I’m thinking of “calling” this one.. due to both pyrometer conundrums and my “tools” heating up.

Hope you didn't!

Read that color!

Dangit.. i did.. 🤣 i mounted the burner incorrectly at an angle.. so the whole thing was.. reeeal hot.. I’m going to hose the regulator to the larger burner for the next try.. in just a couple days..

It was hard to read the color because the pieces had already been through.

Kinda reached “fall over tired” point before I could say, re: making figures, that I have some vintage Chinese mudmen tiny on up to the usual, and a couple of huts if you’d like photos for construction ideas.

I would LOVE that!

Here’s the “temple” i made to “feel out this process.

Here’s my second attempt at structures/huts/temples/gazebos/bridges/wells/ect. THIS is a “sweat lodge”... and is still being “worked on”..

P.S. re: Chinese mud pieces

From what I've read, the Chinese preferred unglazed clay for penjing use, letting the figurines suggest scale without drawing special attention to themselves.

Glazed pieces were most likely export pieces -- the two in the post above are both stamped CHINA on the bottom.

P.P.S. -- penjing figures range from really minute on up. Pictures in next couple of days.... 😇

I prefer unglazed for most “schools” of Penjing Design.. well.. the couple provinces that used figurines predominantly..

That fishing hut/dock is WONDERFUL!

Sorce, would you recommend leaving the burner “fully open”.. and controlling the gas with the regulator?
