Petition to eliminate the "Bar"

I have to agree with JudyB.
I have never looked at K-Bar till last night when it was mixed in with all the new posts and accidently clicking on one of them. I can not look at certain people the way I did before reading some of their rants. I can't say it needs to go. I'm all about freedom of speech and the K-Bar is a place to express that. But the way everyone talked to one another was just childish and disrespectful. It was not a great display of our freedom of speech.

This now causes me to look at the people involved differently when I see their post or comments elsewhere. And whats worst is a lot of the arguments I've seen on this forum started from the K-Bar and overflows into the rest of the forum.

I just really regret getting on this site last night and learning what I did.

Respectfully disagree, most of them do not make it to the regular forum.

Do you fear opinions other than those you surround yourself with,is it like too much to bear,a terrible weighty burden,a scar on your conscience, stain on your soul.

To be smothered, garroted or done away with in a ghastly manner befitting of odious others?

If so you may well be involved in the socialist millieu.

It's an observation.

This is the problem. Good eye.

In a place designed for that exchange, why do you have a problem?
Read my other posts on this thread, I've clearly stated why I think it's a problem.

I thought the problem was Matthew 7:5

Looks like it could be a winner in some cases.

This is the Mormon version:

"Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and canst not behold a beam in thine own eye?"

It's garbled and anyhow,"Thou shalt make no law respecting the institution of religion."

Then don't go there, it's really that simple.

I don't and I didn't "go there". It was on my new posts page. Yes, I know that it is supposed to be hidden; but it was not. I have in the past recommended this site to many people as a good source of bonsai discussion. I can no longer do that and risk that the first thing they see when they sign on is the "N" word. Once again, that kind of crap has no place anywhere on a bonsai forum!

Oh come on... This really is turning into a whining and pouting fest. I agree with u though that that specific post title was in poor taste but I believe there was a bit of a mistake assoc with that posting.
Anyway, hopefully your psyche recovers from the trauma and we can get back to trees soon.

Iant,
I would say that it was catastrophically beyond poor taste. I hope everyone can heal from this.

I think the fact that the regulars over there responded to the post in question with little more than a passing, halfhearted dismissal - and only when pressed into it - says a lot. A LOT.

Then, why don't you and your friend bill do all this via personal messages. Then no one can interrupt or comment upon your precious thoughts.

When you post those thoughts to a public forum it is a tacit invitation to others to join in.

So use PMs, or exchange e-mail addresses, and don't bother the rest of us.

I'm learning Klytus. You contribute nothing of substance, but just stir the pot from over there in Jolly Old . . . .

An immature troublemaker.

Should that second outburst have been handled with a PM?

I am offended that you would call Klytus an "immature troublemaker" as well as make fun of his country?????????

Ok. I'm kind of sorry I started this thread. Its turned into pretty much what I don't like about this board.

On a positive note, I have learned in this discussion about the "ignore" option and will now use it.(except for Smoke, who actually does good bonsai and posts it)

If this forum has an administrator, I would request as the originator of the topic that it be closed.

Better yet, move this thread to the Bar.

I love it when you make my point too.....

Sure alot of glass houses crashed in the last couple days.....

There's a certain righteous symmetry to the idea that those who want to voice venom about the Bar's venom should have to go to the Bar to do so.

No mistake...
Harry knows exactly what he posts...
All one has to do is count the endless post
with very similar racial, ethnic, or religious slurs
to see a Pattern.

With all due respect PaulH...
I Agree with your Post... and ask that it not be closed...
Problems are not solved by turning away from them !!!
Keep up the Good Work.

Grouper I have to say that you have the gift of prose...
Who else would say 'righteous symmetry?' or 'voice venom?'

You must have a bit of poet in you.

It reminded me of this thread....

It's so nice to see high quality language.

Klytus throws out some interesting language sometimes... but that's a different story entirely.

Let's see...
If I dislike, have aversion of something, repused by somebody, or disagree with somebody, that is not hatred.

But as the above feelings become more intense, more amplified, then at some level of intensity, they become hatred.
Nobody could tell exactly when, but people can recognize it at some point.

Also, when somebody is obsessed with a certain subject (Obama, gay issues, immigration, racial issues, etc), this obsession means that they have very strong feelings about it.So, it's safe to assume, that you wil strongly associate with those people who agree with you on these subjects, and will feel extreme hostility agaist those who disagree with you. So, people who are obsessed about something, are more likely to experience hatred in a situation of disagreement.

My view on this is that one can experience hatred, and still behave in a civilized manner. There are places where there is no room for this. I consider bonsai as one of these places.

Attila, just replying to your post where you sanctimoniously tried to imply I put words in your mouth. I guess english may not actually be your first language, as you implied about me, but in your post above you clearly wrote your views on hatred and how your feelings become more intense they become hatred. So now you are saying in your retort that I put words in your mouth, you can not have it both ways fella, if you write something so plain as that you experience hatred over peoples opinions you can not just change that and blame it on me when called on it.

Just to help you out I bolded the part where you prove yourself wrong in your retort by saying I put words in your mouth, it clearly shows you were talking about yourself and your emotions.

The part I italicized is troubling too, I am adult enough to have a discussion, a verbal or written argument over issues such as these, but I can say unequivocally that I have never hated another person for having a differing opinion. Some of my best friends are those who I regularly have disputes with on various issues both political and moral, I can disagree with them and still never feel hatred for them as I am a rational being . I am not one either who resorts to profanity or lies in an argument, both define those who spew them.

Just had to point out your inconsistency , hope you do not hate me for it.

I have a feeling that most of us would agree that the "Karaoke Bar" has no place on a bonsai forum. Another forum I frequent is the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum which has a strictly enforced no politics and religion policy.
If you agree please post a reply saying so. If enough of us do so maybe Bonsai Nut will make this a better bonsai site by getting rid of the non bonsai crap.

Paul

How you feel now?

That reminds me...I have to sign up at the Unofficial Martin guitar forum.

Going to close this thread. I think we've covered all that needs to be covered :) Meanwhile let's remember - it's all about the trees :)
