Petition to eliminate the "Bar"

My friend Bill and I can have a conversation about just anything, politics, world affairs, you name it. We're not bothering anybody, then some of you come to the bar with your opinions that weren't asked for in the first place and stir shit up, then you run around around calling us the trouble makers. I think you are your own worst enemy, stay out of the bar with your opinions and I will stay out of the Ficus forum, because I don't like tropicals, wouldn't want to upset the Ficus lovers, see how pleasent I can be.

Then, why don't you and your friend bill do all this via personal messages. Then no one can interrupt or comment upon your precious thoughts.

When you post those thoughts to a public forum it is a tacit invitation to others to join in.

So use PMs, or exchange e-mail addresses, and don't bother the rest of us.

I'm learning Klytus. You contribute nothing of substance, but just stir the pot from over there in Jolly Old . . . .

An immature troublemaker.

I think it's a form of exhibitionism...they thrive on public display of this stuff, and would probably stop posting altogether if everyone else stopped responding.

Come on bonsainut, pay attention to what is being written here! The majority of us find the bar distasteful at best, and it does drive people away from the forum. Get rid of it!

Chris

Keep the K-bar B-nut!

Other than the occasional blip, You have enough safeguards in place to keep people who don't want to be offended from being offended.

The law takes a dim view of unsubstantiated allegations, there was a good case about a week ago involving two swindlers on the run from the Russian Federation.

Yeah, me for one. Not that I have game enough for that forum, but at least they seem to understand what the word respect is. I would miss it here, but even though I read very little of the offensive material, I don't know if I can view the posting persons in the same light as before I read the hate spewing pus that inhabits that dark place.

Ditto for me Judy! And Chris, JKL, and all the others who have said the bar poisons the rest of the board. Please give it more thought Bnut Admin to shut it down. I agree, they can have their own 'private' conversations via pm or email. This should be a place where bonsai should be discussed, not some crazy ass conspiracy theories.

I doubt it will disappear. However, there is an option to subscribe to this (shudder) or any thread. Is there, or can there be, an option to flat-out eliminate the chance of seeing it -- or the Bar. It still shows up in MY "New Posts" search, but probably because I was stupid enough to respond.

If you don't like the bar, why not just stay out?

It would be fine, IF the posts didn't show up on the 'new posts' lists. It hadn't before, now it does.

I don't have a problem with the place.Out of sight, out of mind

I've tried to stay out of there given that it's basically a kindergarten where people just scream at each other incoherently.

If you think the bar is the only place incoherent bonsai people yell at each other, then you're not well-acquainted with IBC...Not as overtly political there (except for bonsai politics), but there have been some pretty rough exchanges out in the open over there...doesn't happen often, but it happens...

Chris,

I agree. It seems like the type of posts (fitted for the bar) spilled over here already and some seems to just post to annoy and irritate. I am slowly phasing out from here myself. Sad since this is my 2nd favorite bonsai site.

It's changed already. It no longer shows up in new posts. I, for one, am happy that the people who use the bar like it and are enjoying themselves (hopefully) by arguing with each other. Lot's of people like arguing politics. This gives people a chance to do it in a way that isn't completely anonymous (which would be boring) but isn't so close that you offend your neighbor or friend or family (and they never want to come to dinner again.) So it obviously has a place or it wouldn't thrive. It's a very active place which says something. Why try to hide stuff or 'get rid of it?' It doesn't get rid of anything to censor. I for one like the fact that it's there and every few weeks I might poke in to see what those folks are getting all excited about. I think with the changes now back to the old way it's far enough away that those who aren't interested can safely ignore it.

I looked into IBC but it was for the most part a thinly veiled sanctimonious and condescending racism, make me wanna puke.

I still view those pages to see the brown nosing, the look at me's and the buy my products.

I find it amazing that are so many people will no willpower at all. They can't even stay out of a place they find disgusting. The attitude that if they don't like something, those of us that do shouldn't have access to it for our own good. Must be a liberal thing. I can walk by a whorehouse without going in, because I don't like what's going on in there.

Interesting interpretation. Good that you don't like it there, as I don't think the crap you post (here) would be tolerated...and that's as it should be!

Yes there have been some "rough" exchanges and it's certainly not a perfect place (is there such a thing?). However, at least most of the exchanges are related to bonsai, not whether someone is a liberal or conservative.

How far does this sentiment go?

Would the IBCer's like to see the bar password protected in a not on the list not getting in type of way?

Maybe they rightly acknowledge the Internationale is a thing of the past and there can be little use trying to attach Bonsai to it so as to attract support.

What say you?

Socialists in their many genres to own Bonsai as an artform in the West?

What do you mean? IBC = Internet Bonsai Club, not International(e) Bonsai Club - if that's what you were getting at.

Socialists in their many genres to own Bonsai as an artform in the West?
Can someone translate? This is why no one responds to most of your posts.
