Mirai tree sale

I like this one but not willing to spend that much for it. What do i do?

Ask yourself if you saw this at ebay for 5k, would you be tempted?

goes to show you don't really know what you're looking at. It's a Kingsville, a HUGE Kingsville. They grow extremely slowly. You never see them this large. I don't know if you see them at all in Europe, as this is a cultivar discovered at a nursery in Maryland in the middle of the 20th century. A Kingsville with significant fluid movement in the trunk is also not common. Combine size and a pretty decent trunk and Yes, $5,000 is in the upper range of pricing for one, but definitely in the ball park.

Additionally, Kingsville strike cuttings extremely well. Big ones like this have typically been used as "mother plants" for thousands of cuttings over decades. If you bought this, you could probably make your $ back selling cuttings.

FWIW, it's also in a Horst H. pot, which is also pretty large. Conservatively worth over $500, probably more. Horst pots have become expensive in the U.S. if you can find them.

Not really. The redwoods are pretty great. There are several spruce and pines that are extremely good as well.

As for those maples, with the $100-$150 pots under them, and tiny already containerized root masses. They aren't recent cuttings, but they are clones ("second generation'" as Ryan put it). They're also probably not 40 years old, but both are Coral Bark (sango kaku--a specialized cultivar) and on their own roots with some nebari by the looks of it. arguably a decent buy if you ask me.
I should have clarified about my work comment, it looks like around a quarter have been left to grow out this year. I'm used to seeing the Mirai sales having trees that are more "manicured".

I just don't see the value in the maples, the one is in a nice pot from Sansokuu though! I'd rather air layer that variety myself and grow it out. Anywho, to each their own!

Looks like you picked the worse view of the tree to post here. From other views, it didn't look that bad but I won't pay anywhere close to asking price for a tree though.
Thats what I was thinking
I assume this this is the "front" being the first picture in the series.

But I think this view is a lot better, less chaotic.

The two redwoods are nice.

I am surprised how few trees speak to me.
Possible there is a size-factor that I am missing, which would make these much more impressive. But.. Mwa.
The wisterias I really do not get, pricewise.

Yes, even the rootball looks like a tilted plant from a nursery pot.
My thoughts exactly. Then again I'm not in the market for this level of tree yet so YMMV

Yet when anyone asks about doing Sango Kaku for bonsai they always get the same response (not specifically from you)- bad for bonsai, long internodes and poor ramification 😅

Sango Kaku is a cultivar, I don't know what makes it "specialized" opposed to any other JM cultivar. They're fairly common and easy to find.

Do they come with custom pots and already containerized rootballs and decent (decent looking from what you can see in the photo) nebari? Just sayin that these are arguably, and I said arguably, a decent buy.

Wow, got out of the bed on the wrong side? Or just in the mood to make denigrating comments?

Get of your high horse. You do NOT get to decide what I value in a tree.
You posted the shittiest photo of a tree you know absolutely nothing about and asked a snide rhetorical question. So, I got to be up there on that high horse to look you in the eye on yours.

I've no quarell with that assement! That pot on the first one is excellent IMO

Word. Specialized, 2nd generation, 40yrs old, 'designed' by Ryan Neil. The marketing talk in the descriptions is laid on VERY thick. Mirai dont need to do that and risk killing the golden goose by straying into emperor's new clothes territory...

Well, yeah. Ryan N. is a lot about marketing. It's how he has built a brand. I've criticized his overly flowery writing--see post #81--but he's got a lot of admirers for his use of words. 😁

It's always interesting how quickly some of these trees get scooped up given the price tag. I have to imagine the number of people who are in the market for $5K-$10K bonsai trees has got to be pretty small.

The one tree that stuck out to me (pun intended) looks a little, uh, flaccid.

Looks like me after too much whisky

This is disappointing. Mary is her own person. I understand the marketing value of connecting her to Nao, but this is not how you do that.

That tree looks like f*cking garbage 300 dollars for a stick , and that is straight up disrespectful say her name or her own outfit which she does have …. not someone’s wife.. I hate that.
