Mame contest idea

... ...I haven't had issues with them being touchy though.
Maybe it's the climate here????
Or my smooth touch???
Glad to hear that!
So you know the species!
I'm sure you put some wire while the branches are still flexible, otherwise they snap easily.

My first team looks bad... Had a hail storm knocking off nearly every leaf only to encounter my first bad case of scale. Cleaned em off one by one and treated w/Seven. We'll see if it pulls through but not feeling too confident.
The crazy Virginia Creeper is going wild. I can grow weeds well apparently...
Sorry to hear that... but you must think positively.
You will be able to grow them like you grow your... weed :)

Pomegranate?

Why the hell would you pick off each one...THEN spray!?

Either way....
Any tree I've ever picked scale off of has came back banging!

It seems to free them more than other pests.

It should be ok!

Thank God for Hail!

This resembles myself!
I often have breakfast with previous days cooked meal, any kind :D

I'm just picking at it, had to stop otherwise there will be no lunch left. Maybe I can get the kids to have some too.

Anyhoo an update on mine. Not much more than last time. Still pretty.
I'm resisting the urge to remove more and start giving them a bit of shape as I think they will do better in winter outside with more foliage. I don't know really, just seeing what happens.
Also they are tricky little buggers to wire, very brittle even the green shoots. May be clip and grow and guy wires, again we shall see.

Not much to report on the ficus root cutting, no signs of growth on any of them but the ones I scratched are still green under the skin so fingers crossed.

I am resisting on mine, too.
But for a different reason, i.e. I want the plant to grow lots of roots.
I will agree that they snap very easily. I wire green shoots carefully and loosely.

On any other Bougie I wire the young shoots and it is alright but these little mini thais I struggle with, came to the conclusion last season that I will only do more damage than good trying to wire them.

Here is a question we can all go google.
How do you display Mame in a show?
Are there accents? Since there are potentially 3 trees each can you make a display with all 3 and what are there criterea for displaying mame?
Just curious more than anything but think it would be cool learn.(then likely ignore:D)

You had me thinking....then I googled as you suggest and...........what if we display them like this? On our heads? :p:p

Jokes aside though,

Here is a good read on displaying shohin/mame trees from Morten Albek:

Seeing fall color on my Boston Ivy begin...it handles fall so much better than my Virginia creeper who has had leaves turn red then fall off suddenly. (Almost like it had a bought of black spot and is supseptible to it...but also read it needs a high dose of fertilizer to keep leaves.) another told me to defoliate the entire tree end of June...which I was so busy with Honduras preparations... I didn't get around to it. Will do so next year...to see if it helps hold its foliage longer.

Gonna start a thread?
Not enough attention in jere..(Spanish here for you!)

At my show, they have little enclosed plexiglass boxes at the end caps with the Mame trees.
Therefore, all mine are getting designed with this display method in mind.

Seems every venue will have a different way to display them till something gets defined.

But yes, this is something rarely discussed!

I almost forgot I posted that, big weekend and all that.

It would make a good thread probably, just posted here out of interest more than anything.
But yeah the in's and out's of an average 3 tree display consisting of 2 bougies, a ficus, a border collie and suitable accents and placement shouldn't cause too much controversy, no?

What could possibly go wrong?

Hopefully, we will have the insight of members knowledgeable about displays on a separate thread.
So, yes Starfox, go on with a separate thread!

Regarding the autumn red color of leaves, I know that some Italian bonsaists feed their Maples with diluted glucose (do not recall which time of year... sorry...) which enhances the red color.
Perhaps, this goes with other species too.
