Mame contest idea

I needed to quit procrastinating and pick em out. Maybe away this weekend and didn't want to miss out.
I'm all in, like em or not. LOL
Should be good fun.
Yes Darlene I may regret ever pulling it out from under my boat. I have a couple more practical entry's but... what the heck?
It may force you to love it putting in that much time with it. That is my hopes with the Goji. Currently I think...if it wasn't for the contest it might not be on my bench. I was told it takes 5-8 years was it? To be something. I will be closer to that end when this finishes eh? The Boston Ivy...I really think is...may I say it. Cute...more maybe an accent than bonsai material. At least current state. Winter will be interesting to see what that Boston Ivy looks like.

Have fun with it is my advice to you...I joined this contest to just do that. Could I have chosen better material? Possible...but...this will challenge me...and I am hoping help me see growth in myself.

So would an uncut airlayer count as an entry?
It's found (step 1) and it's not prepared (step 2)
I don't have much for bonsai material yet but I did start a late airlayer this summer... don't know if it will work but all my other stuff is cuttings I just bought from milehigh_7 and I don't know if they will work either

Here are some pics

Don't mind the funky airlayer I tried doing a plastic pot but the branch is on its side sooo.... lots of electrical tape

Sure you can enter even a part of a tree wich wil be airlayered next season!
As long as the entered matterial is in a mame sized pot by 20-11-2018

My third entry is this
Ilex meserveae 'Blue Princess'

View attachment 157096

The tree was given to me by @Tentakelaertje

I hope it will stay within the mame size range tough its now 16 cm from rim to top so i will need some backbudding and i hope the leave size will reduce some but well see

This tree is special to me since it was a gift and i prommised maarten to take good care of it since he will move across the globe to kiwi country !

I'm sure you will take good care of it! And also that you will do a good job styling it! Send me a pic when it is at Noelanders 2040, okay? :D

Nice pot?:

I forgot to tell you the tree gets tiny white flowers and red berries! There's flower pics somewhere, see if I can find them.

I love flowering tree's !
Hmm that pot i dont dislike it but i dont like it either lol
I like the pot its in now and for mame it has to be a bit smaller then 15 cm :)
I just happen to have allot of empty pots somehow ;)

Sure noelanders 2025 will be my goal lol !

I think my coprosma is dead. Looks to have rotted from what I can tell. I even had a pot for it, never know it may come back from the dead. It's downfall was stunningly quick after I wired it.

I do like those Satomi pots too. :D

2 days left to swap it for another tree , you could enter one of those ficus root cuttings you took the other day

Well one of them is already in a mame pot. Will have a good dig around just to make sure the other one isn't totally kaput first.

Stunning pot! Shame it's to large for the mame pot contest.

Oops I hadn't even seen it is too large. But it is a damn nice pot yeah!

@Cadillactaste you should check out Fletcher Kaufman of Sonaa pots. He sold a very similar pot to this one on one of the facebook groups the other day.
I think that one was even nicer than the Satomi pot. It was blue with a large stilistic red sun in the top right corner. I'm sure he can make you a similar one of these in the right size.

@defra wonder where all of those pots come from :p
I bet the small green nail polish round is small enough for the contest!

@Starfox you should've swapped star for pot lol. Addict! ;)

I am recovering from the stands I purchased...my bonsai fund needs to rebuild. The pot sounds stunning with a red sun. Wish I had seen a photo of it. Possibly sold when I was on vacation. I didn't really browse the auction groups was to busy.

Slip potted one of my entry's today from the container it was in after collection. I took a look and the roots filled the container fairly nicely already so I put it in a pot. I've been waiting to get it out of that bottle bottom, but it established quickly imo... just a few months.

The little tree needs a haircut but for now it will be left to grow. Ultimately the planting angle will change and the tree will grow so pots will naturally have to be looked at again toward the end of this comp.

And this cool little pot is courtesy of @Stickroot Cheers!!

Stonecloud, I really like the it's adorable!

My roses are both backbudding. I still need to take them back by quite a bit but they need to recover from the Japanese beetles some more first.

I found a plant I want for my third contest entry but sadly it's at the expensive nursery where things aren't sale priced.

Question- must I have the entry in hand by the deadline, or count I for instance take a chance on an eBay plant and enter it based on the eBay listing, then add a pre- photo once it arrives?

If you bought the tree but are waiting for it to arive cus it has to be shipped its ok and a ebay listing will be accepted but we set the date on 20-08 so if its bought 21-08 i can make an expetion but after that date passes every other entry is considered to late im sorry there are rules and i am flexible but have to draw a line somewhere.

Thank you! I really went outside of the box looking for material with this one. Thanks to this contest. I'm so stoked for it. Don't care about victory, just happy to see everyone's different trees and efforts and progressions.

Excited that I'm forced to go out and find my 3rd tree this weekend. Wife can't even say Sh**** :p:p

Actually she is getting into it and suggesting potential trees and what I should do hahaha! See? the contest is spreading!!!!!! LOL

I've gotta work today but gonna play hooky for little and go tree hunting later...

I'm thinking of a rosemary for my last entry.....

Rosemary is cool...though @ABCarve stated they don't like root work. You can lose branches by removing roots. Keep that in mind when putting into a mame pot. He lost a good section of his tree after a a repot. Which was way larger than a mame pot. Food for thought...but hey, doesn't mean you can't do one...for the contest or just for fun on the bench outside the contest. Look up his archived threads on Rosemary. You will glean a lot of valuable knowledge there.
