Below are the ones I have and if I have been able to strike or layer. The only ones I am not confident can be done that I have tried are Shigitatsusawa and Bihou. The Bihou I have only tried smaller ones but they died above the layer point twice. Please note most of these cuttings and layers are in the last couple of years so I can't tell you if they are strong on their own roots yet. Not many issues thusfar. If you want a general set of rules I struggle with the larger leaf ones the most. I find the dwarfs are very easy. I don't have professional setup but do use a mister every 4 hours in the summer underneath a long bonsai table. Also, I don't take many cuttings, often times it will only be 5-10 at a time. Sometimes just one.

After 7 years of attempts at rooting Seigen I’ve had success this summer, hopefully they make it threw winter, but they do root from cuttings, and mine is the real deal.

You able to sell one or two of those?

Updated. Much slower year propagating this year but added some. Tweaked the notes a bit. Played around with different soil mixes for cuttings and a heating pad and none of the tests were better than what I had done the couple of years before. Next year I will try different horomones. I use Clonex now but would like to try powders and dip solutions. Also, will try soaking overnight in water.

@Ohmy222 did you try an air layer on ibo nishiki? Was planning on attempting it this spring.

Great data @Ohmy222. Thanks for sharing. How are you liking that Allen's Gold? On my list but very hard to find.

I think everything in this thread is softwood cuttings or air layers. Anyone had success with hardwood cuttings? I'm trying some this year since they often come for free during late winter pruning. Andrea Meriggioli's book makes it sound easy. I've rooted Arakawa from hardwood but that's it so far. Haven't tried many though.

Use hardwood in leaf, not dormant.

I haven’t had much success with dormant hardwood cuttings but I haven’t tried too hard either. They often will leaf out in spring but die off before forming roots. I did have a few survive though.

Hi @Ohmy222 ,
Any chance yourself or the OP could create a resource file from this thread. Such an amazing wealth of knowledge on this thread. Be a shame to lose it etc.

I did get cuttings from a Bloodgood to root, but still no air layers.
I'm having the same issue with Bloodgood. Cuttings strike but no Air Layer's, I currently have an air layer in place from last spring. I Still see no roots. I noticed Bloodgood take significantly longer to root than Green JM's.

And I was here letting a bloodgood growing wild so I could make air layers from the branches and now I see it will not work

I had a Bloodgood air layer take 2 years to throw 1 root, but the layer had at least a 3" diameter and that could've been the reason... Had a ton of callus tissue though.
