No way. Not you. Your Nick L pot awaits.:)

There's always room for bullie.
I like the way you think. Bully breed dogs are wonderful pets and sadly misunderstood.
I've been on the Board of Directors for the Humane Society located in Benton Harbor, Michigan, for going on 6 years, and have been the President for the past 3 years. With our shelter location we get a lot of bully breed dogs (mine being one of them). The majority of them are excellent pets that have been mistreated or have not received proper care. All it takes is love and compassion and everything else follows suit. And, yes, there is always room for one more....

Don,

I worked with BT rescue, fostering two bullies. Unfortunately, both wound up with significant behavioral issues that I couldn't afford to address. Broke my heart that I had to give them back to rescue to get them intensive training.

It was basically luck of the draw. The vast majority of these guys make wonderful pets. Your first bullie won't be your last. I am solidly hooked on them.

Let's see some pots, so we can fund your dog.
I've got some people coming to see them locally. I want to sell as many as possible that way. Shipping is a bitch for pots.
However, I think there are going to be plenty left for online and I think I've got the paypal thing worked out, so I will probably start posting early next week.

IMG_1651.JPG This is Stella...her only behavioral issue is an insatiable desire to eat her own poop. Nice little girl with a typical bull dog temperament. The best bully dog I ever owned was a 140# bullmastiff I adopted named Mr. Bobo...he looked like a cross between an African lion and the hound of the Baskervilles but wouldn't hurt a fly...unless you had malice in your heart toward any of the family members. He, too, was a great judge of character.

wouldn't hurt a fly..
Like most of the "bully" breeds. They were bred to fight other dogs and animals like bulls. Hence the name bulldog.
The real killers are the more wolf like dogs like the Belgian Malinois, the Akita and of course the German Shepherd Dog. Contrary to popular belief German Shepherds have the strongest bite pressure of all dogs. GSDS also kill and or bite more people than all other dogs.
The mastiff use their bulk and bark to deter intruders more than their bite. But if you mix say a German Shepherd and a Mastiff now you have a walking natural disaster.
These are a couple pictures of my daughters dog Po.
He is half English Mastiff and half GSD. The first picture is him with Rupert when I first got him. The second is Po with my wife Sue when Po was 10 months old. At that time he weighed a touch over 100 pounds.I would not screw with this dog. For all his size he is all German Shepherd inside. And at 180 pounds he is still almost as fast as Rupert.
I pity the fool who would try to do my daughter harm. A normal dog leaves holes in flesh when it bites. I think he would just tear giant chunks off. His strength is unbelievable.20150612_212411.jpg IMG_20130414_020016.jpg
We don't do little dogs around here.

Breeding "bull and terriers" for the dog fighting rings was something of an arms race in early 19th century England. Breeding bulldogs (which tended to be heavier because of their use in fighting bulls in the ring -- a mostly separate blood sport than dog fighting where the dog latched onto the bull and didn't let go), with agile, tough, determined terriers (used to kill rats in the ring-yet another nasty blood sport which required extreme agility) produced a dog capable of quick, but prolonged attacks in the ring. Bull and terrier breeds (which "pit bull" has become shorthand for) include the Pit Bull, American Bulldog, American Staffordshire terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull and English Bull Terrier.

At the time of dog fighting's heyday in the mid-19th century, the best fighting dogs were not huge, massive animals. The most effective were light, low and on the smaller side---between 40-50 lbs. More weight and taller stature are not good things in a dog ring. Heavier dogs tire more quickly, taller legs expose more undersides to attack from a smaller animal.

The pit bull was pretty much the ultimate fighting machine, not too big, tough, and once turned loose doesn't stop. However, it was also specifically bred to NOT be aggressive towards people. You can't handle a dog in the ring if it's attacking the people there. It's a liability that wasn't tolerated. This is an important point--pit bulls were bred selectively for their good temperaments with people, along with their other capabilities. Their bad rep has come from people who have them and have no idea how to handle them or purposefully train them to be aggressive. You can make ANY dog (mutts included) a mean piece of work if you really try.

A GSD/Mastiff mix is not a "disaster." A Mastiff, GSD, pit bull or whatever in the wrong hands IS a disaster.

I had an Akita once. He was protective and wanted little to do with anyone but us, which is their nature. He was very far from being a killer.
The shelter I got most of mine from used to talk about a Golden retriever that was aggressive and dangerous.
ANY large dog in the wrong hands can be a killer.

Look at these guys. Adorable yes? Mostly Labs so they seem harmless right?

Da_Boys_small.jpg

Dont show up at my house if we arent home. The yellow has canines that are an inch long. Both he and the brown lab are 90+ pounds.

The neighbors have stated that they are surprised they dont go through the picture window in the front room of my house when we get an oil delivery and we arent home.
