So I got an old Wisteria tree prebonsai.
I think I can layer 2 branches of the tree and keep 3 trees! 1 with the oldest trunk and 2 newer ones.

I will post pics later, when I work the roots and repot in a bonsai pot.

Gratz! Wisteria are way fun to play with ;)

Kudos! Though...read up on them...many say they don't make good Shohin and need to be a bit larger to handle the blooms it has. That said...one could always use a stand I reckon to display them. I needed a stand when mine was in bloom and it's a bit taller than most of my bonsai.

Wishing you the best of luck...I too have heard they are fun to play around with.

I am attaching a pic, last year it flowered like crazy!

we had pruned it (I had some help) already and then dug up... it had an awesome extra curve, so we changed the front.

I hope nobody minds I keep posting even though nobody replies...

WoW! That is going to look nice when it starts throwing out shoots and buds ;) They really can take a lot of chopping and cutting and come back real well. Looks like you are going to have a nice one! Not certain how wide the base is but looks to me to be a 15 year old if I am guessing correct at a little more then 3 inches.

Good move...but being a chopper, I probably would have chopped lower still. That said, I never worked on wisteria so maybe yours is the right approach.

Re: posting update. Please keep it coming...someone will eventually appreciate what you are doing (like me). ;) Or they can complain...and start posting on your thread. LOL :p

we repotted it and chopped roots off, so probably I will not see any flowers this year, but I did buy a canon rebel XT and a full on timelapse rechargeable setup to take like 12 or more pictures daily from the same position and see what video we can get.

Oooh...that would make a nice & interesting video.

Thanks Dario!!! I didn't want to chop as a recomendation of my teacher, the bark takes some time to age, and the branches look nice. There are buds everywhere and I wanted to get some flowers in the next 2 years

Sounds like a good way to document! Looking forward to seeing progress on this one

I agree with not chopping this, as these should be basically built as a framework for the long racemes of blooms. This being rather tallish should serve that purpose very nicely. I do like this one, and don't worry when you don't get replies, it happens to me all the time...

Thanks Judy!

I thought I needed awesome trees to get comments and answers XD

I went ahead and did a virtual of your tree and chose a new front using your 360 camera. The reason I changed the front was when I was spinning around your tree I saw that there was some nebari hidden behind the trunk. The front I chose kind of maximized on the nebari while adding more of a sense of three dimensional movement. The last thread I posted a virtual to kind of had the same two dimension feel at the current front, and we're always looking to add excitement.

I tweaked your branches a little bit. I believe in a single leader toward the apex, its something I was taught to do. To get the branches where I have them you will need to let the apex grow out, chop it back and wire the new leader into position. And also pray for the left side branch, that would be an ideal spot. The branch on the right could be cut back to a nub and regrown if you can't wire it into that shape without breaking the branch. That would also introduce new taper into that limb, which is good.

Your tree, do whatever you want with it, my opinion doesn't matter. I can't even grow Wisteria.

The front makes a lot of sense, I actually did this 360 exactly for that.
I dont really know if I want to chop down the branches, and these are way past bending. I will try to make the side branches shorter to get more of a central apex.

Thanks a lot for your time.

I think you done nicely with pruning...I would wait to see how blooms hang before I chopped and wished I hadn't. But that's just me. I have a wisteria and...I had contemplated chopping a specific branch. Then...when it was in bloom I was relieved I hadn't. Wisteria as Judy mentioned is allowing for the racemes to hang so the tree needs to be taller. Looks great!

Just now settling down to see posts I missed when out of the country and had no connection with the world. I love wisterias...so...yours peeked my interested. Can't wait to see this in bloom. Interesting trunk...I think you have an eye for what was needed with this particular tree/vine.
