Extended season starting trees indoors

Thank you for the detailed response. I recently bought Harley’s master grower course and have been going down the biostimulant rabbit hole.

Do you think it would be effective to Foliar feed with 5:2 fulvic kelp every other week and alternate root drenches with fish emulsion/calmag on alternating weeks

so week 1: 5:2 fulvic:kelp
Week 2 fish/calmag drench
Week 3 5:2
… etc

I would also have organic cakes like a biogold on each plant in addition to this.

Do you think this would be effective or too much feeding for the duration of the growing season?
Organics a re a different game altogether as the hosphorous is usually in annorganic form that needs broken down by microbes………And of course I am very used to checking my EC very accurately with a meter.
I use lots of chelators and low npk so there is more absorption of water……..my pines a very green and currently only at 1.2 ec………..most growers usually use 2.5 ec at this stage, but I find it way unnessecary.

I use hydro methods with every watering and two part fertilizers………a&b formulas………I pretty mich am getting it to a science………way time for learning though!!!

Pure water such as rain or ro water demands calmag all the time u less you use an organic soil.Pure water sucks minerals directly from the plant if in a bunch of stones or a sterile media.

Also ph is absolutely important at all times.

This is a bit different with organics……..and media type…….plan does not sound too bad….would need to see how the cakes change media ph as sterile medias like perlite or whhatever will basically be the ph of the water…….a caking organic needs microbes and some experimentation.

STARTING THE 2nd CROP OF JBP SEEDLING CUTTINGS.
ALSO THE BURNING BUSH CUTTINGS ARE CALLOUSING.

I decided to cut these earlier than I usually do.Also had to use Clonex Gel.Hope it works.

Did about 100 today……I should probably go get some Dip& Gro,but the Gel is easier and much faster……if it works I will stick with it.I think pre-treatment is the most important though……I did dunk the seedlings for 45 minutes a few days ago in some fulvic acid and kelp along with a couple more foliar feeds of it too.

You can see the Burning Bush cuttings in the other dome……hopefully all of them root….I dunked the whole tray into fulvic acid and kelp for their first time to burst some roots from the callous.

ALSO POTTING SOME RATHER MATURE CUTTINGS( they sat so long until I had time for them).

This is probably a good thing,as they handle the initial root pruning with my current method of up-potting to the 2” blocks.Sometimes I just leave them sit if rooting is subpar and low and behold you check them at a much later time and they are rooting fully.
About 40 more of these to do this evening.

EUONYMOUS CUTTINGS SEEM TO BE ROOTING @ 3 weeks !!!
This is good.I want to make another batch and have a ton of these for the future.I will have to grow outside, but can always start early perhaps indoors….especially if I get more space.
These can be very cool!!!
See last picture of the quality these can attain!

CLONEX SHOULD BE FINE FOR JBP SEEDLING CUTTINGS.

Keep in mind I do prep these with a few kelp foliar feeds and aminonacids for extra calcium at roots too. Then also a 1:1 ratio fertilizer along with co2 fertilization. These are very energetic when I do cut these after 12 hours of light to at end of cycle.

The first tray was just dipped evenly and they are callousing ogtime at 1 week already and so I dunked the pot into kelp to get some root stimulation going.
The first pot looked so good, but I did notice the gel always difficult to stick onto the waxy stem.
So this last pot today I prepared little holes i to the medium and filled with about 10 ml each the gel and stuck the cutting into it.This should make longer exposure to the hormone….we will see in a couple weeks.

Euonymous Alatas update

Some of these are pushing roots enough to transplant.
I put into 3” stonewool in a co2 tent. For a couple days also in a dome to acclimate to lower humidity and higher light levels.

These should be great.I will grow indoors till’
Early September to get an extra push before Autumn and setting outside.
Will do a flat of these every season and collect many and many. This will be very fine projects for the future.

Quick update from the kabudachi JBP I got from you. I turned it 180 degrees today, should have done that more regularly...

Now that’s a candle for sure the light green
color has me a little worried it seems to need more iron or magnesium….. lacking a bit of photosynthesis.
Ph probably?
Will fix in a jiffy

Going to check. I'm using the same water, and feeding them the same as my other JBP's, with exception of solid fertilizer because I can't find space to place them in. Using Osmocote +. I have liquid iron, but I know that is a quick fix...

I supplement with RAW 5:2 humic/kelp with a dash of Yucca, miracle grow at outside plant strength, Fulvic and sometimes seaweed extract every 2 weeks. Should I add CAL/MAG?

They will get either repotted in spring, or slip potted into the next size Rootpouch early fall. I really want to see what the fusion of the trunks look like at soil level to see which would be better. I think it is time to clean up some needles down below, what do you think?

@cmeg1 I'm ordering a couple tonight. Been excited waiting but now it's HOT hot here in Houston, and my concern is shipping heat, will it affect them? Down here we'll be in high 90s next week and "feels like" temps approaching 110 from the humidity.

Pines can take heat in over 100° in a growing environments and the Grodan will stay wet for over a month when it’s wrapped in saran which I ship them and I tested it🙋‍♂️

Ph probably?
Finally received the pH meter that I ordered through amazon, the pH of the water is 6.8 and ppm's around 245. Could it be too much water? I have two 7.2 GPH running 5 min at 9:30 am and 3:00 pm. I'm going to swap them for the 4.8 GPH, those are the smallest I have right now. I thought about closing one of them, but in that case, the rootball will only get water on one half. I think I'm going to do some needle cleaning down low to see if the spitter can reach both sides.

I ordered CAL/MAG but I guess that one is on-demand, as delivery is set for next week. All the other ones I have ordered arrived in 1-2 days.

Too bad that CMEG doesn't live in Europe.:(...
Can not find these kind of seedlings here

I would have to say the ph in volcanic media should not exceed 6.5……..there is the iron deficiency…….
Organics soil can run high like that but not volcanic……..no way iron is available above 6.5……..

Thanks, I will have to check the other trees. I have in all volcanic soil, so far I haven't had an issue with the other trees looking chloritic. Some pics after cleaning the needles in the lower portion. There were a lot of dead needles inside, but thankfully nothing dead. The center trunk has not grown much, but the candle elongated all the way to the top so I guess that now that I cleaned up the area and exposed it to light it will push new growth. How old were these trees when you sold them? I have at least what looks like 4 years of growth. Also, there is a lot of back budding down close to the soil... yes. I had to be careful while pulling needles so I didn't end up pulling the buds out.

Fed them this morning with 5:2 and liquid iron and new osmocote plus after I cleaned out the top portion of the soil and removed all the fertilizer that was sitting there. I cut the bag about 3/4" lower and cleaned out the soil starting to expose the "nebari". It is very solid so I had to poke a few holes with my chopstick to make sure that water percolates down the center as well. I'm going to slip pot this tree in the fall into a bigger but shallower bag.

How old were these trees when you sold them?
16 mnths old currently…… maybe 3 to 6 months when I sold them to you dependent what time last year, with about 8 weeks of indoor co2 fertilization at the start before I brought them outside in June 2021.
The first and last pics have dates on them.
Good fast growth……. Surprisingly really I only fertilized quite low …..some of my second season pines are having super long candles also and look just like yours.

The Regualr un-cut JBP seedlings are starting to fill in and pop mature needles.

Many are still loaded with immature needles yet. This is quite a good sign for very ful and dense leaves. The un-cut ones mature very quickly.I applied a root starter for three weeks so there are more roots to take in the bio-stimulants.Thes will be great by late Autumn maturing outdoors!!!24912EC9-F582-4D0D-AC39-5B4E4EB28DCB.jpegE03F2E73-1CF6-4D56-8B15-F9700C5918EB.jpeg29C3C3D4-EDF1-4199-8919-229B159E22A8.jpeg

CUTTINGS,CUTTINGS,CUTTINGS!!!!
I am favoring varieties that have absolutley no issues with insects or anything lately.

Siberian elms were completely defoliated by beetles and I refused to spray….

Anyways …….lots of cuttings are in order.I fell in love with this Taxus x Media….starts with an H??
Great color and substance to the leaves….hopefully easy to propogate.

Finally confirmed my outdoor grow structure to be delivered around October,so I am starting propogation now to have a perpetual supply all the year long.

Propogating Japanes Red and Black Pine seedling cuttings….very large quantity to bring down the cost…..

Korean Hornbeam of both varieties I believe.

Also would like to collect some local Trident Maple seeds!!!

And the regular seedling are shaping up quite nicely……will be very fine and lots of low branching.

The structure is a 6x12 lean to shed.
The double doors will be substituted for a regular door. The 12 foot length is plenty of room for a 8-10’ flood table for the new ebb and flow.

THE TREES ARE REALLY FILLING IN AND THE RED PINES ARE JUST SPROUTING

The Japanese black pines are really filling in,though only with immature leaves. This is always a sign of healthy trees to come. The immature leaves really do a great job of photosynthesis in the 1200 ppm of co2.

The JRP that are begining to open leaves do have a brighter reddish kind of green to them.
These should benefit from no disturbance of roots and really get a great start…….though I am starting JRP seedling cuttings at this time too.

Bunch of starts and cuttings till’ October when my outdoor grow structure is delivered!!!
