Extended season starting trees indoors

Wow, that's fabulous! Thanks for the share. I've got everything but the insert, ha!

Alright, gunna do it again, how long till we can buy? Keep adding this fancy stuff and I'll only be able to buy a partial ownership in a Zelkova :D

I honestly do not have any zelkova for sale till next sesaon hopefully.
I made some zelkova air-layers and I’m hanging onto them because they are so cool. But it is good I continue to grow these and make a rather large crop hopefully when I get the outdoor fascility this season.
I want to make brooms with a much longer trunk/bole section and the ones that do not broom properly I will make into the clumps through air-layering…..hence the ones below in the pics. These could all be very cool.I’m actually keeping the few I have to study their growth nuances.

Euonymous Alatus seeds

I let these cold stratify for 5 mnths….from what I have read this should be sufficient.

It seems to me that co2 fertilization and Burning Bush would go hand in hand for sure since a slower species……If they sprout,I will grow very large numbers…….Even smaller type Euonymous bonsai have a very special appeal to me with the colors and nice twigs…..and also when slower grow habits actually do a nice design in branch structure on a little plant.
These are very durable plants that do not seem too fussy either as far as molds and such. A big ++ for me.

I get the seed from 100 year old burning bushes in my yard!!!

I soooo hope these germinate!!!

Gorgeous bush!! Very cool to oversee the full life cycle, from collecting the seeds yourself to growing the plant until maturity.

Thanks. They are a real treat for sure. Here are web pics!
These are so cool.
The fall color and eventual berries will be a blast.

Do you use the CO2 as part of your stratification? I'm trying to figure out where the CO2 fits into the picture.

And this is being applied at what stage and how. Apologies for such a noob question but trying to wrap my mind around this.
When the seed spouts and begins growing, the leaves absorb light, and convert water and Co2 into nutrients. More Co2 = more nutrients = more growth. The Co2 doesn't do anything for stratification and unlikely to affect germination rates. There is great info in this thread, it's a long one but we'll worth reading through if planning to grow seedlings indoors.

Yes,thank you.Co2 fertilization can be quite an interesting topic.I especially like to withhold excess nitrogen sometimes and increase chealating amino and humic and fulvic acids along with the bio stimulants and there is definaately some interesting topics to arise on photosynthesis……especially when nitrogen is restricted a bit and co2 increased…….it is almost comparable to releasing a plants full genetic pottential…..for them to make their own NPK at the roots and not being assimilted all the time by the plants leaves and such other processes……
I generally prefer to grow these starters like plants in nature can be ,more or less ,in a basic earthy ground or clay….higher brix, smaller cells, stockier growth, better branching and stronger rooting.
But,of course the water is the earth in my grow room.

I have thouroughly explored these attributes in the growroom with co2 fertilization.

Im excited to see what you do with the euonymous seeds! I have two (collected and air layer) and a third on the way by means of another air layer from a landscape bush. I always love to see your zelkova, my second love.

In CO2 fertilization, extra CO2 is released into the grow tent, creating a higher-CO2-content environment that can allow for faster growth. It's just done post-germination once the plants are growing.

How long did it take to achieve this size for zelkova with CO2 fertilization? How much with additives and set up is this rig? I’d like to see it done with Hornbeam and Native Trees

Thanks. That makes sense now. So used inside a grow tent. Obviously has to be sealed. Not sure I want to go this deep down the rabbit hole but I don't think that's in my control at the moment 😅😅😅
