Does ANYONE really like or appreciate the bitchiness on this site?

For Al's comment feeling his low post count got him brushed off. Personally...I try to be gentler to newbies. And let's face it...we don't know the extend of ones abilities. That is why the title does go so far in assisting ones of who at least has been here awhile. Learned the ropes...and such of archive and what have you. May have learned to keep a tree alive... I may not have chewed on your guidance as long as one I know and admire their trees...If you were new, and I didn't know much about you. I would take your advice like a gain of salt. But, that's me...life can and does get in ones way...curious if you Al @Bananaman in the past as smoke...gave newbies the desired attention you felt your post deserved?

Well in the grand scheme of things... it's trees, not brain surgery. Shouldn't be so serious anyway.
...and for some thats good enough...

...for others its a lifestyle and something they spend thousands of dollars on a year.

My wife calls me an asshole all the time. I accept it as a term of endearment. Maybe the people that feel they've earned the right to be an asshole experience affection when they're being said asshole?

On a side note, I believe this thread will go down in history as the highest count of the word "asshole". Another useless point of this entire thread. Just saying..
Truer words were never spoken. The problem is that to get any participation out of this group you have to stir it up with pissing matches and name calling. I've tried trees before but am usually met with deaf silence????

You mean like post #484?

I guess...the forum as a whole dictates the content. This is a bonsai forum not a gardening forum, which is what it has turned into. I would love to just post trees and talk about them for a change, but no one here seems to want to do that or has the trees to post.

You could change all that. Post up your best tree and ask how it could be improved or if its best the way it is.

Actually I started out being a new guy but the forum found it was way better to unmask me and make fun of me. Thats not my fault.

In all seriousness, I think it all boils down to boredom - especially this time of year. Some don't have the inventory or don't have the skills or time to work on their trees so they post silly threads to try and interact with others. Maybe they think it's funny or just like to be combative? Most of the time if I read what I think is useless thread I just move on. If you notice, this time of year I don't post much or make many replies. I'm not saying all threads I don't respond to are crap, sometimes the subject is something I just don't know enough about to add any insight to.

I'll do it this weekend and see how it goes.

You gave too many clues and although I could sense who your new persona was, I kept quite about it. Stick with the new program and you'll be better for it in the long run.

Just yesterday I posted a tree and asked for advice. I see posts about trees all the time. Are we on different forums?

Okay, please don't take this the wrong way because it is in no way meant to be bitchy. He's talking about trees that are either what one may consider developed bonsai or material that very close to being "bonsai". Nursery stock that just had a load of work done to it is not how he wants to be challenged. It's kind of like comparing Kindergarten to University. Two totally different levels of interaction. I hope that makes sense to you and doesn't come across as an insult.

I never appreciated it, but I do appreciate all the other help and discussion. Thank god for the ignore button, I used it a bit my first day.

Its funny though. All the “high level bonsai folks” i have met in real life have been very welcoming and friendly, no where near the size of the egos of some on this site, but I suppose that is to be expected.

If being “good” at bonsai requires acting like an asshole, I will keep my crappy sticks in pots :)

Impossible to do ---- Camera has but one eye.
Brain does not see that way,
Plus only a one eyed man would design a tree from a single angle.

Better to use Youtube and image walking around the effort in a white
walled room.

All you would be looking at is flat silhouettes and flattened
masses.
Anyone who designs bonsai, designs in 3d.
Good Day
Anthony

*This is why folk who copy images for Oil painting,
from Photos reproduce so well on the Internet, especially as
you get closer to the original size of the photo/s.

IF there could be made one more sub-forum (according to the way the existing forum works), where only advanced level members would interact, then what is the title you @Vin or @Bonsai Nut or @Bananaman would give to it?
And do you think this would be productive?

So what are you suggesting - sounds like a sub-forum where only certain designated members could post or respond? So only folks like bananaman, bvf, sergio, judy, etc could post?

Talk about a way to kill a forum. You'd turn this place into IBC or bonsai study group.

There already is a forum for that Αλεξάνδρα. All I'm saying is just because someone more advanced in bonsai doesn't respond to posts that ask nothing more than basic gardening questions or give detailed instructions on how to make a newly purchased Home Depot juniper look like something Kimura created doesn't mean they're assholes or the Earth's axis has shifted. It's all good though.

It would be highly productive, simply because the older
heads could talk about where they are.

They could still do the - help my bonsai is dying bit as well.
Or I bought a mallsai.

And no I would not be accepted - Tropics, Simple designs
and a temperature of 70 to say 86 deg,F -------- optimum
for tree growth,
No good talking to anyone out of that range.
Good Day

That’s the problem with public forums. People over state what someone says. For effect you decided to add that the juniper should look like something Kimura made. I didn’t say that at all. I said something that could be placed in the club show. If there is one thing I don’t like it’s people putting words in my mouth. I would like people to quote what is said that way there is no room for exaggeration. It does not make for better forum to miss state people’s words.
