Does ANYONE really like or appreciate the bitchiness on this site?

I'll let some in on a secret, early in my time on the forum as bananaman I posed a question at @markyscott post about the willow leaf. It came from a guy called bananaman with like 5 posts here. I posed a simple question of a 50% reduction to his tree which is way too tall and has a terrible top which will never look good. Marky gave me a head nod, "thanks for your comment", never really addressing the tree at all. He looked at a name like bananaman and 5 posts and disregarded the post as someone with absolutely no experience. If he's happy with it I get it but it is really a funky tree. I think it could be made better by removing all the bad parts and starting over but it's not my tree. BUT, it is posted here and open for commenting ....right?

So post away on this public forum and just know that sometimes someone is going to blow chunks in your cheerios and your not going to like it. Debate the remarks not the guy who states them. Look at his trees and his record and contributions then lean them up against your own and think..."hey maybe this guy is teaching me something if I would just shut up and listen"

This is called an exercise in reading comprehension. When you make a reply and quote the text you are responding to, it should be as clear as water...right?

EDIT: on second thought maybe this was a two part answer from Michael, so in the spirit of the forum I will say keeping the hobby alive. My apoligies.
The question still stands

Don't worry. I just wanted to understand your experience so I looked at your profile on BE. I was concerned you may have been chased off from the forum due to unjust responses by some of the members.

A few people on that forum have actually been trying to make the forum deal better with these basic questions. As I have been a member on 2 of the B.E. fora from very early on, leaving and returning upon request, I feel sort of responsible for part of what is going on. It does not help if a forum is flooded with -in some times of the year 10+ per day- posts of IKEA style ficus, dead s-shaped trees and seedlings. Not an excuse, but a reason for some of the direct and at times harsh responses.
I think the problem there is the same as here. The people with experience, real experience, become bored with what kind of tree is my bonsai, is my bonsai dead and can I make a banzai out of this here tree???

I bet he knew who "bananaman" was. We all knew from the first post.

I didn't know from the first post.

It isn't easy for a beginner or a teenager, the people who will keep bonsai alive as a hobby or an art form in the future.
Why is this important?

Sure but that doesn't mean it is ok to intentionally erect barriers to make entry more difficult just for the sake of being an asshole.

I got bit up a little when I came on the site.
Not bad- could've been way worse. Posting my sticks but I went back and read everything I could get my hands on. I learned a lot reading the archives. I still read more than I post. There are some really talented folks on this site and I love their threads. My growth has been slow but steady. I still consider myself a beginner. If no one ever challenged me to do better then I would still have crappy trees. Some are actually becoming decent now. I'm finally starting to style bonsai and not just growing trees in pots.

Thats the beauty of America we can be anyone we wish to. I have never on this forum ever been just an asshole to anyone. I have held my ground after I have posted and someone like Coh or Just wing it want to wag the tail. But thats defensive not offensive'

Thats the best post I ever read.

I have them on ignore so I never have to hear all the stupid BS and lack of trees from the noobs.

Look at the similar threads below and tell me if this sounds like the kind of thing people want to read all the time.

I’m kind of surprised that there’s not a StackExchange bonsai Q & A site yet. It would be a great way to build a repository of answers to the common questions about bonsai and the built-in site moderation features of that platform have been pretty successful at solving both the repetitive questions problem and the rudeness problem. There’s a gardening/landscaping one, but I think bonsai is different enough that it should be it’s own separate thing.

Do you have me on ignore again? LOL. Thank you and good riddance!

It's been my personal experience, and experience in other hobby forums that when a person "gets bit up", it usually means they aren't hearing what they want to hear. (Generally speaking, not directed at you) In other words, people are giving them honest advice instead of telling them how good they are etc etc etc. Photography forums are the worst - I mean if you take a crappy picture, its a crappy picture - there's no way to sugar coat that. And if you try to give them advice, they think the person offering the advice just thinks they are better than them.

More times than not, I've enjoyed the snarkiness on this forum. I find most people here have really good senses of humor. And if my sticks in pots offends anyone, well then thats what the ignore list is for. I'm not going to let a bad attitude get in the way of my hobby happiness.

I didn't know from the first post.
I guess it might depend on what post you first saw, but "bananaman" had made over 30 posts by the time he commented on @markyscott 's tree. If you saw only a handful of them, you should have known. If you didn't...what can I say?

I guess with me- I came in the door wanting to learn about bonsai- and that's what I got.

I knew after about 5-6 posts. Then I followed the Bananaman. Maybe one day I will change my name to coffeewoman. Nah doesn't have the same ring to it.
