So, what I saw was a much smaller canopy with shari twisting up the main trunk. I butchered the photo but you get the idea. The question then becomes, could this happen in nature? I'm on the wall..

A tree growing on a slope starts growing up, but a lightning bolt strikes the top, killing / jinning the apex and going to ground, causing the shari you have in red.

I could also see shari extending to the jin on the bottom of the angled trunk.

I really like the more condensed canopy, as it makes it more of a bunjin.

I like it! However, the drooping branch feels to large (in diameter). Maybe if you carved a break on the top where they join?
More than likely, I will probably end up with something more like this image. In the first couple of virts, there was a branch bending back up on the lower branch that formed what would be the new trunk of the virtual you designed and my second virt... however, after examining the branch further, I decided on it's removal, seeing that not only did it not have good branching and foliage, but I didn't like it's placement.

I think the various virts, do help to show how many different directions one can take a single piece of material, and how one does not have to be limited to just one design.

While I'm not nearly as talented as you, I have a few junis that have me perplexed with what direction I should take them. One of these days I'll get some shots at different angles and post them. I'm sure there's a tree in them, I just can't find it.

You should post them up!

Thought I would post up what I have done... Started working the top and just didn't care for where it was headed, and felt the tree didn't need the top to stand on it's own. All main branching and deadwood is set, still need to do fine wiring.

Looking mighty impressive!
Thanks! I still have to do the fine wiring, but I might for now just let the recover from the heavy bend, I put in the trunk. Also, will need to grow in, in quite a few spots... so the more foliage, the faster it will recover.

Thought it worth noting that this whole tree now is just comprised of only one branch, that has now been made the continuation of the trunk... with the finer branching of that branch making up the new main branching of the tree.

Again, always easier to grow out a tree into the design you eventually see for the tree. Put movement in the smaller branches, and allow for the foliage to grow out, will turn to adult foliage faster.

Also, was able to shari, the front side of the branch coming down at an angle because of the apparent veins of the branch... the back side of this has a live vein, which supports the branch, that forms the continuation of the trunk now. Eventually, I will carry this shari down the base of the main trunk once the tree settles into it's new design.

Thank you, sawgrass, for your precious time and effort.
This thread and the similar are justifying the purpose of bonsai fora on the internet.

... ...Also, wanted to say, that I know I have gone off subject here, seeing that with this tree it is no longer a "Choose your own Adventure" thread... I just felt that some might find it informative, to see a step by step development of styling this tree!... ...
Don't mind, posting up more of these, so others might be able to see the process of designing a tree... ... So, let me know if anyone is interested in seeing some more.
I do want to read more like this.

That's a big 'un! Where does it start? I can't tell if the base is in the middle or top.
When I get a chance, and clear away some of the foliage I will see if I can take some photos of the trunk...
Side note I picked up two of these, one for styling and the other for me.

Thanks, I appreciate it!

Once I decided to block all of the folks who are constantly starting trouble and pointing the finger at everyone else, and decided to not continue playing their games, it became apparent how awesome this site was without all their negativity!

I don't need them or their advice to do bonsai, and I will keep doing what I do, and sharing along the way!

So, keep checking back will continue to post work I am doing, in the hopes that others might pick up a few things along the way... the better we all become at bonsai, the better bonsai as a whole becomes!

Personally, I've picked up a lot from your progressions. I now approach new trees differently - trying to compact them and find more dynamic angles, rather than trying to work with the existing structure how it is potted. It's opened up a larger range of material for me - I almost prefer to work with "ugly" material to see what I can get out of it.

It is kinda funny cause often folks are telling people to go out and get good material to work on... not to waste their time on garbage. Yet, if one does not find or collect an awesome piece of material from nature, how then does a piece of material become good?
Someone created it...

Side note... this week's project might be delayed till next week... Currently working on trying to start up a new Bonsai Club in my neck of the woods!

I like this thread!
If I would gave seen this thread before I wouldn't have chopped a juniper I had and set it to grow instead of getting the best out of it now with what I had.

I am curious if you have done a large juniper with natural deadwood and split the live vein of the dead wood and twisted the live part (I'm talking large and straight as in largest part by far of the tree) and made a jin out of the dead part?
