Here comes the hard freeze for 2024

The freeze has left my pumice beds frozen solid and some of my pots unable to drain! I dug them out to drain them. I posted some more thoughts on my other thread

https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/panda’s-over-winter-beds.62803/

always finding a reason reason to check on my trees daily, even when I know they don’t need watering.

The freeze is over for me. Nightly tempatures are predicted to be mid-30s to mid-40s.

With the day tempatures returning to the 40s and above, I began the work of reclaiming my garage from the plastic sheet menace and putting some of my plants back on benches.

It's still here! Currently 7 degrees, high of 18 tomorrow. I am really SO over this. Just one lottery win away from my new home in the Bahamas.
Yea I keep telling myself similar things.

Grass isn't always greener though.
Bahamas will be warmer but the place is very often a speed bump for large hurricanes

8b, 17 degrees this morning, projected 13 tomorrow morning but by Thursday the high will be 70 with lows around 60. As cold as it has been the last 2 weeks, the Carolina Jasmine in my yard has kept moving towards spring. I expect blooms by next weekend.
We are similar. Seems like the Appalachians shield us from the worst of the winter cold, and we get that nice temperate flow up the coast. Thursday is forecast to be 62F, and Friday 68F 😍

We had 50s on Thursday, but nighttime temps were still in the teens. Yesterday got up to 30F for a brief moment. Looking now, for the foreseeable future it's 40s and 50s for highs, and lows right around freezing.
Actually, oddly stable weather for our area. It's a little weird.

Yea it's 23 here right now at 10AM been teens and low 20s at night. Barely above freezing during the day here the last week and the end of next week is supposed to be in the 40s to almost 50

Not so in the Shenandoah valley. Cold sits in here and rolls down the mountain tops. I was 6 degrees last light, but I know there are many places close by that were much colder.

The last freezing round is over for me but there is one more looming in 10 days. It is supposed to be mild but I don't trust the weathermen. Last year we had the big freeze in February. Now I am debating on whether to move the trees out or keep them protected for 10 more days. With no leaves on the trees, I don't think moving them out early will gain me much.

Life got away from me this year, trees were still on the benches when the cold hit. had someone put them on the ground under them, best I could do. Hoping for no more than 50% mortality (all my deciduous), but we will see how painful spring is. Usually I mulch everything in against the garage. Zone 7a.

If it's not expected to get to where it may wake up some trees, I would leave them until you're sure it's safe.

Being in North Carolina shields you from the cold 😁

Ice, ice baby. We had freezing rain overnight/this morning. At work, we grounded all of the fuel/propane drivers. My husband is a truck driver and he had to work but luckily he goes south, so was OK. Thankfully it's warming up and is raining now.

Been battling with flu for the last 4 days. Am glad to have 60% of the trees out of the shed and garage. Am completely wasted after that. NO MORE BIG TREES! They have been inside for about a week... but they all look fine.

I hope you feel better soon!
