Volunteered again as docent at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens for my club's bonsai pavilion. 71 vistors today---several of them very excited about getting into bonsai. It's great that I cn actually refer them to the closest nursery which not only has 'finished' bonsai trees but also seedlings and 2-3 year old pre-bonsai, and soil, pots, tools, etc.

Plopped this azalea root chunk in a pot. No idea if it will live. I could have had about 20 of these but I didnt have the room or time to separate them all. This one had some particularly nice movement. If it dies no harm no foul.

The real work. Pruned this juniper in preparation for fall wiring and began cleaning the live vein. I love the white red contrast, and I haven’t even added lime sulfur yet.

Took a ton of shimpaku cuttings as an intermission to the real work I’m doing today. Think this chunky one will take?

Is now a good time to strike shimpaku cuttings? If so, I may take a handful. I have some decent extensions on a few of mine.

So far, just watered and admired the trees.

I don’t think it’s the best time, but I’m already pruning the tree anyway, so it’s either throw em in the bin or stick em.
