US National Bonsai Exhibition, Sept 8-9, 2018

@Adair, both of your olives are stunning! Much better in person. I forgot to ask Bill V if his garden is open this weekend. Anyone know? Might head there in the morning if it is.

That took a minute, lol...
Took me a while too! Been a long tiring day.

@Adair, the olive looks terrific! It's much bigger than I thought based on the previous photos - has great presence. Like a little mountain in a container.

Exhibition is great as usual, didn't take any photos maybe a few tomorrow.

Edit to add - @BulldogBonsai I'm pretty sure the arboretum (Bill's place) is open tomorrow. Just give them a call before heading over to make sure.

Can you please post winning trees when you get a chance? Thanks Chris, I know it’s a long weekend for you!

It is. He has “Open House” hours. I think 10 to 2.

Classic!

@Adair M great displays...the pots on the left are exceptional!

The White pine is in a Shuzan. Absolutely top quality. Kokofu-ten quality. The Itoigawa is in an antique Japanese pot that is a copy of an even antiquier Chinese pot. Lol. The small Olive is in an antique Chinese pot. The big Olive is in a contemporary Chinese pot. Of all of them, it’s the least expensive! Even though it is far larger (and large pots aren’t cheap!)

Don't forget to take the toothpicks out!

Hope to see you tomorrow at some point.
The toothpicks are code. Picks in front mean the official photograph has not been taken. Picks in back means that the photo had been tasken!

Coh, I saw you briefly at the Kathy Shaner review of my tree. I hope to see you there today.

Fine show! Picked up a nice zelcova from Suthin, some Minerai and Rayner pots as well as some awesomeness from Matt O. Replenished my soil supply as well. Also checked out Hollow Creek as well as Bill’s garden (his maples are amazing). Long drive home to Alabama in the morning. Can’t wait for the next one!

Sorry, I don't have a list of the award winners. I know a Suthin tree (cascade pine if I recall correctly) won the National Award. Maybe @Adair M or @markyscott have a list? At some point it will show up on facebook or Bill's blog.

Thanks, I did see this earlier, just surprised it took so long for results to leak out! Looks like the quality of trees here are getting far better every year.

Agreed, heard many comments to that effect during the weekend.

The exhibition was great. I already plan to go to the next one. 2 years to save up that cash! Teaser shots of what I took from the show. I'll be taking proper photos later in the week when I get a chance.

A 100 year old RMJ from Andy Smith packed in the back of the car. It's my first "yamadori", most expensive tree (for now), and given more time to recover from being collected I think can be a wonderful little tree.

With the little cash I had left I got 3 small pots for accents. From left to right Nick Lenz, Yozan, and Roy Minarai. I love Roy's glazes, I knew before I went I had to get something from him. Nice guy too! Next time I'll definitely be shooting for something other than the least expensive one.

Roy's pots were beautiful. Didn't buy any but was tempted.
