Thoughts on Today's Bonsai Mirai Tree Sale?

Mom and Pop nurseries where they sometimes had plants in containers for years, maybe somewhat neglected, stuff that no one else would buy because it was "weird". Those were good sources of potential bonsai. Now a lot of available nursery stock is of much lower quality -
Yeah, annoying it is. I have not been able to find any of these random nurseries near me either.

have you guys not tried larger scale nurseries that cater to landscapers/large gardens?
the gardens in the US are huge. so there must be a big market for large container grown material. i find it hard to believe all the best nurseries are only where Ryan is.

No-one else.. ? Hm.

It does make me think of a transformation I saw on nother forum years ago where one of these hedging thuja's wat put horizontal, and every side-branch was wired up into a forest-style. Trick: The roots were just in a pot, and the horizontal part in the air. Amazing result.

pretty cool transformation.
ive seen pine material like this in garden centres, im not a pine fan tho

This sort of scots would go for 100+ E hereabouts. Not really cheap material. And.. You would have to be really lucky to come across something like this. Most is singular trunks, staked and trimmed out regularly. But going to growers fields could bring this.

i think my thinking is different to most.
i would have no problem paying £100 for it, if i know i could improve it to a point where i could double or triple what i paid for it. i guess you would need to be confident in your own ability to bring the tree forward to part with the initial outlay.
dont look for bargains, look for potential.

I think I meant to say: You buy something that size, pay 100 for it, and come home with a stick in a pot. :)

ill be doing my nursery runs in a few weeks, ill take some shots of any pines i come across so you can compare prices and availability. i do see a lot of mugos

Hey, if anyone's interested, today is the last day of their sale...Looks like 8 trees left and they've dropped the prices by $600!

Hey whoopee! I think that trident forest is a bit high even with that discount, course the pot is probably worth almost the asking now lol...

wow.. Heard trident forest and had to see.. That is a bit pricey, yeah

i personally think the trident forest is pretty bad. Not visually appealing to me. The pot looks very nice though.

I agree. Not a fan of the forest at all. Really love the RMJ 2 and 8 though. 8 the most!

I thought the forest was ridiculously priced tbh, but it is a big piece. 3ft tall and all. Someone’s snapped it up at 2 grand though!

Looks like the JBP will be the last one...I’d have had it long ago if it weren’t for those pesky ferns!

I'm not a fan of the trident group either, but it looks like all the trees sold.

Not being early riser did not see site until 11AM so miss several trees. Anyone have pic of all trees in beginning of sale by chance:confused:?

Nice. Guess he can pay his morgage another year. Kudos to him making an impossible business domain work

Apparently learned more in Japan than just styling trees. Not to mention great idea of Mirai Live:D.

I too would like to see the whole selection. I’d like to see what constitutes a $350 tree.
