The 2023 Yamadori/Collecting Thread

Dug this shrub up from the garden. I think it's Euonymus japonicus ‘Macrophyllus Albovariegatus’
Got some potential as multi-trunk 🤔

Noticed some tiny scale insects though, hopefully I can deal with that before they suck it dry... Any pro-tips for scale? I have some neem oil if that works outside?

Yesterday I pulled up a wisteria from my yard as part of my invasive removal plan. I'm debating if I want to chop the top off or air layer it. Right now it is really top heavy, so I have it propped up a bit; it's wired in, but the plastic Anderson flat is having a hard time keeping it up. Chopping it would solve the problem, but there's a decent top (not pictured) above the straight section at the top of the photo.

Very nice I don’t think it’s a birch . But I have been wrong before I’m married . Where is it from always interested in . Conditions growing environment. Where collected trees come from . Good idea for us to share . May inspire someone’s search area

Nice I suspected a rock crack tree . From the pic of the roots . I often have similar opportunity . A vast amount of Ontario is large outcrops of rock . Creating pockets . Without mountains . It’s some of are best areas . Have you got into expanding a rock pocket . Or just take what you can access in the crack

Always need to be on the lookout . Delivering stuff for my wife to a local farm. So driving down a backroad stopped because snow removal equipment is blocking next intersection for a few minutes . Look over at old farm pasture this is what I see . For scale both are about 4 to 5 feet tall . Have a very wild apple 🍎 look about them . Will have to track down land owner ( may not be easy ) and ask permission . But we will see

Among the BCs I collected last month was this little gem. I think it will be potted in a bonsai pot next year.

Considering how prolific a grower BC is . Have you considered creating a style you would not traditionally see a BC . Semi cascade for example just curious

I’ve learned not to fight BC for a cascade. I might buy a cascade fall BC to create a cascade.
