The 2023 Yamadori/Collecting Thread

Hi All, sorry if this is the wrong spot for this but I didn't want to start a new thread for just this.

Around my neighborhood is an area that is taken care of by landscapers. I noticed this little guy the other day and it doesn't match the shrubs surrounding it.

My questions are:

1. Does anyone happen to recognize it? (I'm thinking maybe some sort of natal plum?)
2. Would this thing be worth trying to collect? It looks like a ready made (although maybe a bit boring) little tree. I think I could probably slip the landscapers $20 to pull it for me

Thank you!

That’s what my plant id app says . Being a northerner I have no idea . But it’s a cool looking tree . I would dig it yourself and not trust the landscapers . There liable to be pretty brutal on the roots

Looks like Waxleaf Privet to me.

I'm thinking privet too. It looks like it may have a mondo trunk below ground. I'd immediately go get my shovel if presented with the opportunity.

Even up in the north the collected tree is doing great , like you said fingers crossed on roots!

Looking good. Weather in Chicago will get down to the low 20s some time in the next 10 days. Make sure you protect it because it is tender.
I take it in at night and have nice little spot indoors that it has been loving, tons of good lights for it

80% have budded. Only the few collected in the past two weeks haven't budded yet.
Next 8 weeks is the critical time of forming roots. The buds are from reserve. I am hoping the roots will follow soon.
What a difference a day of sunshine made! 100% budded. That included a bunch in the two 9 tree forests.

Do you have any collected BC that are only budding on one branch and nowhere else? I have one that has no branches and is budding all over (3rd pic) but this one is only budding on this one little branch.
