For the past 2 years, there has been serious Winter Moth caterpillars infestation here in Massachusetts. Last winter, all of my maples had leaf damage due to these caterpillars. Since they have no native predator, they spread like wildlife. What type of damage can they possibly do? I'm talking about dozens of one inch caterpillars munching on the a tree. Definitely not a situation to be passive about.
I'm expecting this season to be worse than the prior years. I have a game plan to spray bacillus thuringiensis twice a week. I've had success with bacillus thuringiensis in the past but this year will require increased spraying frequency.
Wish me luck!
