The 2022 Migration Begins

Yea I decided to move mine in a week early this year. Hearing about 30s in VA isn't making me happy 🥶

I brought mine in a couple weeks ago:

New addition this year after getting sick of walking upstairs to get water every day (ignore the creepy blood-looking stain on the carpet, it was here when I moved in, I swear):

Those look like nice lights. What brand, how many watts each?
Love the way you have set up your drip trays.

They are the HLG 100 V2 lights (95w each).
I wondered if that's what they were. It gets great reviews and I believe it is made in the USA. I very nearly bought the same lights but I bought Spider Farmer lights with a built in lighting dimmer. I went with these because they have rave reviews from the cannabis growers I know.
Yours are giving you great illumination and coverage. Its plain to see you are serious about your lighting. I would love to replace all my LED shoplights with HLG or SF lights. Not gonna happen though, I would need at least 30 of them.

I was torn between HLG and SF, can't remember why I chose HLG at the time, but I definitely like 'em.

the cannabis growers

I grew some up until about 5 years ago. I actually just got rid of my 1000w and 400w HPS setup. Had a hard time even giving them away considering everyone has switched to LED.

It was more fun to grow when it was illegal.

It may have paid for all the labor necessary to build a dormer on my house, but that's just speculation... Ha

More like my habit slowed when my daughter was born, then completely stopped when my son was born. Wasn't really a conscious decision, just kind of happened.

That happens. Thankfully my kids are grown up now and have their own houses.

@Carol 83 - I had a pomegranate for 42 years, then accidentally killed it by leaving out too late in winter. Pomegranate will "enjoy" a light frost or even a freeze to maybe 25 F. But if the roots freeze solid for too long, they are toast. I lost mine one night when it dipped to +19 F. The pot was frozen solid. I think if the roots had not frozen the tree might have survived, but roots froze solid.

Most winters I would allow my pomegranate to experience light frosts, +29 F, bring it in if colder was predicted. Several frosts would be needed, but then it would drop its leaves. I would then put it in my barely above freezing well house. Temps were 33 to 40 F. Usually in February, it would start to grow, even in the cold well house. Nothing would keep it dormant past maybe March first. I would move it to the light set up with the orchids until safe to go outside.

The first 20 years I had it I treated it more like a tropical, bringing it in sooner, and putting it under lights right away, that worked too. I think growth was a little stronger when treated with a rest in the well house, but not a huge difference.

Photo is from 2012. Sadly I lost it around 2015

Be careful what you ask for. This is about 85-90% of it. Still have to set up a high light area for some large plants, BRTs, Powder puff, Mahogany, Poms, and several more ficus. I sent my largest ficus and my bougies and some assorted plants to a minimally heated greenhouse.

Nice setup! I like the lighted plant stands. You need to open a store front or Bonsai stand, supplement the electric bill payments. :)

Slight chance of frost on Friday/Saturday then lows in the 50's next week. I'm keeping them out unless the forecast changes. I'm convinced leaving them out longer last year was the reason I had no leaf drop when they came in. I will bring in my Baby BRT's, I'm not totally reckless.

I've had low 35 & 38 this week. Friday is low 31F which really means 29F. I brought mine in two weeks ago but I'm a 🐔 when it comes to mother nature.
