Shohin bald cypress...

Foliage stays happier.
I was talking to a guy that has these. He said he exfoliates them in summer when the foliage starts looking crappy. That's when he wires them too. They put out fresh new foliage shortly after defoliation.

I can see that...I cut mine back all summer long! Since @Vin does it...with success.

Does applying vinegar to a toothbrush and scrubbing the moss-affected area really work? Because if so, I should use that technique.
You need to allow the vinegar to do its magic..and kill the moss off. It's a patience waiting game. If you are impatient and don't let the moss completely die...you risk damage to the bark. But yes...it works. Try to cover the pot if you have a large area. You don't wish to drench the substrate.

Nice little tree but why does it still have leaves? Almost December!

My BC still has leaves, even after temps in the mid-20s. It's in winter storage. It will drop all of them though. Sometimes takes some time for the tree to get with the fall program.

As far as a pot for this nice little tree-- I'd go American--.an oval with a muddy colored (yellow, brown, green) glaze would work--the red ash, frog and light frog glazes here or similar.

Yeah...always behind on dropping them here too. We had late heat...to extreme hard freezes. So I protected so I would see fall colors. Not sure it was need...but, then allowed cold spells to hit it.

Thanks for the suggestions...would you keep the size it's in. Or drop 1/2" in depth?

Pulled the thick moss off the side of the pot. There is no weird mound on that side.

One pot I do own...but, it's not wider than the one it's in...just a tad shallower. I don't wish to just make it work. I want a pot to rock the tree in a combo pairing.

I would definitely go for rustic, but pretty rustic not the ugly kind. I'm having a hard time thinking of a good pairing for this, but that one you are showing is not too bad. Might be a touch too small. I wonder if a tray planting might work well for this.

So width of the pot...that is my Issue, this is a 7" round/lotus. So would you take say an oval almost out to the edges of the canopy? I keep this in a shallow tub of water...so unsure about a tray.

Thanks @JudyB ...and also @rockm . I see me having a good number of pots when the day comes to choose from.

Considering a new round pot come spring...it currently is in a 7x5 rectangle 2 1/2" deep. What size would you put it in? Is a 5x2" round to small? Or, should it go into a shallower oval pot?

It is really nice tree. I like its leaf colors. To emphasize its colors, I would use violet or crimson pot. I am thinking oval pot will be good. Thanks for sharing this beautiful tree.
