You betTake care of that back. Thet don't grow on trees!
I need the exercise for the rest of my life. Unfortunately in that regard this one oak won't last that long.

That's a good question. The answer is basically the same as for bonsai. It depends on the species. Although it's not as strong as it was, I do love cactus and succulents. Next year I begin work on several P. afra. Growing them out this year in-ground, but will have to pot them in a month or two and bring them inside. I found several at Walmart this summer in 1" pots. Separated them into 3 or 4 plants, so I have about 10 total for $7.Can I leave my Cacti out is the question? Gets cold in the desert at night.
Just about anything native to the US can be left out until you get a real freeze. The ones from further south, it's kind of a crapshoot if you don't know the details about the species. Generally anything above 40F should be safe like most tropicals, at least if there's been a transition period, not a sudden overnight swing. Can I leave my Cacti out is the question? Yeah, I'm going to follow my "better safe than sorry" rule. Thanks!Just about anything native to the US can be left out until you get a real freeze. It appears Houston will be OK. Louisiana right now is the target of Francine.Ready for the hurricane this Wednesday yet Houston and Louisiana people?
I am a bit concerned about @Joe Dupre' now. Francine is heading that way I think. It appears Houston will be OK. Louisiana right now is the target of Francine.
Thanks for the concern. It looks like Francine with come down my street. I've already moved the smaller trees into the workshop. The big cypresses and other big trees are on the ground. Hopefully that will be enough protection. Cars are fueled up, water is stockpiled and the Generac is working. The big oak in the front yard was severely pruned a couple of years back. Not much else to do but sit and wait. I've been through many hurricanes in my 70 years. You prepare the best you can and just wait it out. We've never left home during any of them.I am a bit concerned about @Joe Dupre' now. Francine is heading that way I think.
