Looks like someones Saturday involves doing the September Two-Step. I'm going to leave a few Tropicals out the Bougainvalles and Vietnamese blue bell. Now where did I put my dancing shoes...

Can I leave my Cacti out is the question? Gets cold in the desert at night.

That's a good question. The answer is basically the same as for bonsai. It depends on the species. Although it's not as strong as it was, I do love cactus and succulents. Next year I begin work on several P. afra. Growing them out this year in-ground, but will have to pot them in a month or two and bring them inside. I found several at Walmart this summer in 1" pots. Separated them into 3 or 4 plants, so I have about 10 total for $7.

Just about anything native to the US can be left out until you get a real freeze. The ones from further south, it's kind of a crapshoot if you don't know the details about the species. Generally anything above 40F should be safe like most tropicals, at least if there's been a transition period, not a sudden overnight swing.

Yeah, I'm going to follow my "better safe than sorry" rule. Thanks!

What's the elevation in the mountains there?
Nothing like the 14ers out West but it's said we have the square miles of Texas if you flatten everything out.
Took these pics last October.
BTW we had 39.9°F here last night on the river valley end of the state where Ohio and Kentucky meet WV.

Looks similar to some areas in the Black Hills of South Dakota (although they are mostly covered with conifers making them look "black"). Highest peak there is Black Elk Peak: 7242'.

I am a bit concerned about @Joe Dupre' now. Francine is heading that way I think.
Thanks for the concern. It looks like Francine with come down my street. I've already moved the smaller trees into the workshop. The big cypresses and other big trees are on the ground. Hopefully that will be enough protection. Cars are fueled up, water is stockpiled and the Generac is working. The big oak in the front yard was severely pruned a couple of years back. Not much else to do but sit and wait. I've been through many hurricanes in my 70 years. You prepare the best you can and just wait it out. We've never left home during any of them.

Best of luck to you my man.

We drylanders don't see a lot of hurricane weather; not complaining. We got up to the 90s for the first time in almost 2 weeks today. Loving this weather. It's very rare this time of year. Moving back up to normal-er temperatures this week. Triple digits should be phasing out by the end of the month.
Some monsoon rains wouldn't hurt my feelings, though.

It's highly unusual for a hurricane to hit LA or TX and skip us, but drought begats drought.

Not expecting 1/100" or .01" of rain from Francine.
The clouds and breeze however from her outer reaches have been nice but fire season is a month early.
Worst drought in 20 yrs and as bad as anywhere in the US.
