99 now for Friday.

First time since 2012 Temps normalising this weekend and going into the normal dry season already dry.
Wow, did we switch climates? Actually had a nice shower this morning. Then I turned off the water and got ready for work.
But seriously, it rained about 45 minutes around 8 am at work. Nothing in town but still...
...clouding up as I type this. Hoping for three or four inches through Tuesday or Wednesday.

We had a storm rip through with 60+ winds on Tuesday. Broke some limbs on a big landscape tree in the backyard, after cleaning it up I probably should have the whole thing removed. $$$ The same strong line wind picked up my 4" foot Dawn Redwood prebonsai that was bungie corded to the bench in a 5 gallon sqaut pot (45lb+), and tossed it on the ground along with six other Bonsai. Very frustrating trying to battle the wind in my area. No broken branches on anything.

More heat Friday then a cool down.

Glad your damage wasn't worse than it was. We have three seasons here.
Hot and dry
Hot and windy and dry
Windy

I can relate to battling the wind.

Is it worth taking cuttings? Or maybe not suitable species?
It's not worth it to me. It's pretty when it flowers but it's also an Invasive species, and the flowers smell awful.

The smell of Callery pear trees (Pyrus calleryana) is often described as unpleasant and can be compared to a variety of things, including:
Rotting fish
Urine
Animal waste
Rotten flesh
And the list goes on.

For the last 2 days my thermometer got to exactly 100.0°F. It plateaued there by 4pm today as well for the 3rd day in a row, but it crept up closer to 101 in the last hour. Nevermind the rainfall. We got .05" yesterday evening which saturated the hygrometer overnight. 20240830_164832.jpg
4:55pm EST. RH is a modest 35%.

Yesterday Hgtn. and Chas. and my thermometer all 3 hit 100 even. Regionally stable I guess though the evening storms were variable if you compare wind damage and rainfall which I barely got any. Hadn't hit triple digits actual air temp here for 12 years.

Highs in the mid 80sF/low 30sC pretty consistently, but now that the seasons are starting to change the lows are also dipping to the mid 50sF/teens C. It will be time for the tropicals to start coming inside before too long I think.

I haven't closed my bedroom window for the season yet (that doesn't happen until it's closer to freezing at night some years) but I've had to turn off the fan, and actually use a blanket on a couple nights.

It seems like we're almost having what the rest of the world calls seasons. We have a mid-October forecast this week.
Hit 100 or higher last week 3 days in a row. Was 50°F this morning with 40s in the forecast :)
Highs were in the upper 70s low to mid 80s this week.
Got 1.11" of rain Saturday.
Normalising
Glad to hear you finally got some precipitation! I don't have a weather station, and judging by the amount of water in my pup's pool, we probably got around 2" over the long weekend, and counting, but slowing.

Flooding again yesterday. This morning fog dense enough to bring the visible distance to 100m. And forecast now includes sub-50F .. Yeah, summer is weakening. Just the cloud cover is pretty consistent and sun still is more exception then rule..

At what low temperature do you start bringing tropicals inside for the night?

I have a very large plastic jar housing my three tiny ficus; once the temps drop here in mid November to early December, I can just bring in the whole jar. Looking forward to explosive growth next year.

Precip didn't break the drought but i was able to burn a good bit of brush last couple days.

2 weeks ago I had this oak lightning rod taken down.
Needed a bucket truck due to power lines so I hired dropping the tree and they took most of the fines and leaves.

Also in power lines I had them top out these poplar trees as they were destined to fall on location for a new she-shed my wife is getting.
So in 2 weeks working every other day I've manually split and ricked this much wood so far...

Got 22 solid chunks out of this mid sized block of wood

...most was split during the heat wave. I've worked on it one day not during the 90F+ degree days sweating off 4 pounds minimum each day.
Keeps the lymph nodes flushed out and my sweat doesn't burn my eyes at all.
It's a lot of fun but i have a bad back.
