Here is a link to the $27 one on Amazon. If you notice, they also have a medium size. Hope this helps: Small Chinese Elm for Sale.
Yes, I bought the medium one. What I meant was a place where I can go see them and pick the one I like, not a mail order where they just grab a box and the next tree in line and send it to you.

Not at all... think about it as an "S" with random sticks going front and back.
This thread has some interesting ideas, including a post from leatherback, showing a "mallsai to raftsai" planting --

Here are some pics. I couldn't get water to percolate through the container and my first thought was that it was root bound... nope, I poked with my chopstick and it went straight through with some weird resistance and then a wet rotten smell came out of the pot. So out the tree came, there were no roots rotten, but the solid was black and nasty. I washed the roots, repotted without root pruning into monto clay / bonsai block / pumice 1:1:1, into a rootpouch inside another bag surrounded with pumice. If the tree survive it will be in the contest, if not, oh well... also, the tree is getting ground layered if it pulls through as well. there were no roots on 1/2 the tree trunk, the trunk was 2 thick branches (about 1/2 the thickness of the trunk) running from under the trunk to one side of the pot with all the fine roots coming out of them. It's sitting under the shade my bald cypresses and my Seiju elm.

Got mine in today, looks very healthy!
Honestly pretty happy with it. Little over 1" base. I'm having issues choosing a front, every angle feels just slightly wrong. We'll just have to see what happens.

Excited to see where things go and be part of something like this!

This tree lost all of its leaves in august due to a lousy treesitter. I was almost convinced it was lost. However, it regained its health and is still full of leaves as we speak. IMG_20211119_125555.jpgIMG_20211119_125555.jpg

Looks like a couple of these are going at the same time. I'll enter this Home Depot maple purchased last week and immediately chopped, root pruned and replanted, with some cuttings taken first. Let's see what can be done in 5 years.

Oh wow, gave it the real chop! Well done.

Last year I fell off the bonsai wagon, and I hated the idea of starting another BNut contest which didn't get followed through with.

I've a few that I got recently and put in the ground, even though I made this contest, I'm unsure if they fit criteria or not! All are cheap and undesirable material.

A deshojo cheap and cheerful. I put this in the ground over winter and strapped it down to a tile too. Another maple thread on here, gave me a lot of inspiration. So will see what a ground grown maple can do, it is a red variety though which will grow slower plus I just have a bad time with maples personally. They hate me and I don't like them at this point!! But it's a straight and boring tree. As you can see, I cut one of the 3 trunks, that's all the work done on this so far.

Also planted in ground same time. This is actually a free double trunked (or 2 trees, I don't even know, didn't look close enough!) Elm which I was given by Jerry N, when buying a few other trees from him. It'd been left in a small pot for a while, did nothing cos I didn't do anything with it.

So now it's in the ground, we will see what happens! Might get some great bulk in a few years, fed heavily (that's chicken pellets you can see on both trees), and then see if we can do something with it!!

Been a bad entry on this one. Still haven’t found a malsia CM.
I have found a s trunk Fukien tea, but killed it in 2 weeks time.
Also purchased a Malsai tiger bark, which is doing well, but no Chinese elms.
I imagine the nurseries around here will have them as soon as they start stocking up for the season.
So yeah,... TBC.

They are in stock on Amazon from Brussels, Here.

Mine died over winter. :(
Might have to look at getting another but the bench has gotten pretty full...

I didn’t notice this thread till today, but count me in. I love these contests. It’s motivating to try new species and styles.

So, did this ever got started? I thought about starting to add a thread on my elm and couldn't find a contest sub-forum or threads. I guess it could be done with the few people that posted pics of their trees here up until above this post.

I dunno — saw the cheap Amazon Chinese elm yesterday, and had the twitch to buy it, countered by the immediate “but I’ll most likely kill it” — I should take a shot & get it over with, I suppose. AFTER the weather/shipping situation clears — freezing the victim in transit would be cheating.
