A Modest Proposal

Post away, I'm sure I can come up with something I don't like about that too.....
I personally don't like soil, because it doesn't let my tree breath...
I am think of growing them from now on suspended in air.
Might be a bit hard to display at our annual Bonsai exhibit ???
:)

This is awesome !!!
What ever happened to that really cool tree you did with the wire going everywhere ???
Side note... I hope you and your wife are doing OK !!! This doesn't mean I like you though...
:)

Well I was going to mention that things were going pertty good except for having to do Chemo which we wished to avoid, but now one of the CT scans has found a mass in her right lung and a new biopsy will be done at the time they install the port.

I decided not to talk about it because it had nothing to do with bonsai and was not appropriate to talk about here and I didn't want to piss anyone off.

So just forget what I typed. *this message will self distruct in 5 seconds*

Sorry to hear it, my thoughts are with you and your wife.
We are talking about a lot that has nothing to do about Bonsai around
here lately. I have a lot of trees I have been working on that I can go
take pics of and post up... but I don't feel like it.

Bonsai is but one thing I do as a pastime. I collect ancient Greek and Roman coins, and I also collect ancient paleo man relics.

Just as an aside, this is a picture of the first coin ever minted in the new USA. It had a saying on it that is just as appropriate then as it is now.

If more people would just remember this saying and follow it, the world would be a much better place.

I actually had to paint this coin image recently...
I was doing work for a bar that was opening up in Northern
Pennsylvania... that had a colonial type feel.

I have a good family friend that use to dive with Mel Fisher
here in Florida, on shipwrecks... he had an amazing collection of
Spanish coins he had helped bring up.

Of course its appropriate. We are a community of sorts and I'm sure all of our hearts go out to you and your wife and hope for her recovery. You're a smart guy, I'm sure you get it. You probably contribute more bonsai substance to this forum that anyone else and I for one appreciate it. To me, the bonsai community is an extended family. I don't talk politics with my brothers either.

Used to. Traded down to finance more bonsai. ;)Now I've got a Takemine 12 and a couple of Chinese clones (Blueridge) that are actually pretty nice guitars for the price.

Oh there's nothing better than a Martin. I have an '03 D28. Best guitar I ever played.

Well I don't know what type of bonsai community you reside in, but at the two last club meetings I partook of, with a group of 16 men and a couple women, the chatter among those working on trees lately has been politics. It is so pervasive now it has taken over every single person in this country, from the very poor to the very rich. It has devided out country deeply and I am ashamed of every thing they do in Washington from both sides.

As an American, I am not going to turn my back on politics in this country, not for you, not for anyone. Americans are sick of politics and turn away from it constantly. Those that have good jobs, and healthcare are not interested, and those that have nothing know that a vote cast for someone willing to give them something is the way to go.

Don't become a someone that just complains for the sake of complaining. Your not going to change anyones mind here anymore that the Congress and the Senate will ever see eye to eye.

MIND YOUR BUSINESS and these things have a way of just dissapearing on their own. Make a big splash on a discussion forum and those that don't post anything all year have something to say. You become part of the problem rather than being a solution.

let em go...nothing on this forum lasts more than three days anyway. Trust me, ask someone whos posted over 12,000 times on forums for 16+ years.

Al,

I like how you put it,

"Those that have good jobs, and healthcare are not interested, and those that have nothing know that a vote cast for someone willing to give them something is the way to go."

Nothing to offer.
Good Day
Anthony

Well I do have a good job and very good healthcare and I do care about the direction the country is headed.

I discuss and argue politics at work and at home all the time and like others, I have a pretty strong opinion on what has been happening in Washington lately.

I won't discuss it here.
I don't come here for that.

Wow, Al. you're good. You almost compelled me to talk about my political thoughts. I do have strong opinions and vote based on them. I just don't think this is the place for them.

I can't recall any vigorous political chatter at any of the three clubs I attend. Oddly, we mostly talk about bonsai.

I'm sorry if I came off as a complainer. My intention was never to stir the pot. I was hoping to try to improve this forum which i enjoy so much.
My apologies to all I upset.

Paul

What you said actually sounded very political to me. Would you like it if some moderators remind you , even gently , to not talk like that? Should we shut this thread down too? Are you an adult? Do you like to live your life under constant supervision by other people? If you feel like you need to live in a place that require constant supervision over every words in order to save you from feeling uncomfortable then don't leave your house, or don't come here. Because there is no Gestapo here for you. If you can not tolerate the knowledge of somebody else being a republican or a democrat or a libertarian or a whatever, and if you would have trouble talking to people not of your party affiliation, then you can not say that you are a very tolerant and open-minded person. We don't have a Don't Ask Don't Tell policy here. So what if you don't come here for political discussions, I don't either. But at least I don't feel the need to complain to the authorities to have them do the dirty work and shut people up when they say something I don't agree with. Sorry if this makes you feel uncomfortable. It is not personal. Your thread just happens to be the last post I read.
Sincerely.

Wow. That's really all I can say after a reply like this, especially from a site moderator. Wow.

For someone who has the title of moderator you seem to be going out of your way to instigate people. What's your deal?

What's my deal?? If you really want a sincere answer then try to read my post over again.
I have never banned anybody nor do I have nor want the power to do so , even BNut don't ever want to ban anybody, and I have certainly never told anybody to watch their words. I guess I am not even a real moderator! So what's your deal?

The description for "The Tea House" clearly states "A kinder, gentler off-topic forum for people who want to talk about subjects unrelated to bonsai. No politics or religion allowed." So if the designated "off topic" part of the forum doesn't allow political discussion, why would it be welcome in any other part of the forum?

FYI because you deemed it necessary to call me out. I argue politics and the state of this country all the time and work and with my husband, who happens to land on the opposite side of the discussion from me. After over 20 years of being together, never going to bed angry at each other and still planning on being together for a very long time despite our differences of opinion on politics, l think I/we have a pretty open mind. I am not afraid of someone else's opinion, nor intelligent discussion. I engage in it every day. The latter of which has been lacking when it comes to political discussions here because some people cant be adults, put their emotions aside and think rationally about it for a minute.

Go ahead and let this whole site become a huge political debate and we can stop talking about bonsai and just spend all of our time talking about politics and calling each other names because we don't land on the same side of the argument. Its worked so well for this forum in the past.

If this forum ceases to provide a place where I can come and learn about and discuss bonsai and devolves into nothing but petty bickering about things we can do nothing about in this venue then please delete my account because there will no longer be a reason for me to come here anyway.

Lastly if you really aren't a moderator, you shouldn't have the title under your name. The very title of "moderator" denotes a certain responsibility to uphold the policies of the board. If there really is no one willing and/or able to do that then there shouldn't be a policy in the first place.

Gotta say... good thing the "Moderators" around here
are cops, they would probally end up on the evening
news beating up on somebody !!!

Sad when we need a "Moderator", to Moderate the "Moderators" !!!

Didn't you just tell me to watch my words on the other
ridiculous post ???
That you would have to Ban me???
