I did the same. it was so root bound it broke the pot, but I think that these things like being root bound? A lot of the ones I see here, the nebari is usually circled.

A side note. I find it interesting that in English we call it "princess", but in Japanese it's called old man's persimmon.

Yes they like it root bound but you need to cut encircling

No fruit for you!

This year I decided to give this tree a rest. I cut off all fruit early on to prioritize vegetative growth which in turn promoted back budding. Some of the branches were getting rather leggy so I wanted to reset some of them by hard cutbacks. The result was a profusion of back budding which will further improve the ramification.

Not nearly as pretty without the fruits but sometimes is necessary depending on the objective.
