A little chinese elm. Great copper tones on this tree.

Kinran Japanese Maple, not trained as bonsai because of graft. Enjoyed for about 12 years as a container plant. Holding its color well, picture taken today.

Korean Hornbeam. Most of mine were yellow and have already defoliated. This is from the same group and it is still in color and its color is much better. It has been allowed to grow freely almost all year. Looking forward to the leaf drop so I can re wire, but I am enjoying the color now.

not a very good year for maple colours, they first had to survive the heat.

I have several "snake bark" maples, among them a dozen or so Acer davidii.

The leaves are quite big though I can see that with proper care like you did with your forest they can reduce well to the overall shape of the design.

The feature we're looking for is that marbled bark (""corce jaspée" in French), but it's hard to make it a focal point with young potted trees...
