Nippon daisy at Lowes

My Nippon daisies died back hard with the freeze but have budded again. The trunks at about 2" from ground level are all intact. Everything above have died and dried out. I am excited to see them grow again this spring. When do we wire these guys?

Mine from @Pitoon are growing again also after spending the winter in an unheated garage.

They are budding profusely. Soon I will have to choose among them.

2 pots from Lowes were divided to 8. 2 were given away. I still have 6 that are thriving. I am excited for the future of these. The question is how long will it takes to look like a bonsai.

I hope you make it, I'm not saying how old I would be because it isn't possible to be that old.
If you read about the progression of that tree, you will see that the tree has regressed and revived a few times over the years. My take is that I will get to some thing that resembles a bonsai in 10.

Well then, mine are screwed.
@Carol 83 if you want to see impressive trunk growth plant it in the ground in full sun. Be sure you dead head the flowers once they are spent as the wind will blow the seeds everywhere.....once established they can become invasive.

I'm not sure they would survive a winter here in the ground.

Ahhhh.....I forgot your locale. Well next best thing would be a big pot where the roots can escape into the ground. Then when winter comes you can relocate the pot for overwintering.

Mine (except for the cuttings) are still in the nursery pots you sent them in. Should I just leave them in there? I do have some round, a bit more shallow pots that might work better.

Not too shallow. My Asian friend told me not to put these in pots with less than 3” of soil while trying to build it.
