My Instant Bonsai

They do. The blue is a waxy sunscreen the tree puts out to protect the needles burning in the sun. White spruce get blue also. I've seen blues that are silver blue, blue, blue green and green.
I've seen this in one batch of trees from work lol its crazy how much variation there can be.

@Giga Love this one i am going to buy one tomorow our local garden center sells them for christmass this year

i dont have any experience with spruces tough maybe ill Just ask you for info :D

when i get it tomorow can i start pruning right away?

Depends on the state of the tree, your climate n such. Generally if it's healthy you can prune from fall to late winter. Or if it appears healthy and in good shape you can prune and wire all at once

I think you should go ahead get some wire on it now. If you wait till you repot, you'll have to wait again to wire, so as not to disturb new roots. Stout little booger.

mike is right; CBS and other spruce will bud-back readily when newly extended shoots are cut back after june. I have 2 and I'm getting bud set on the trunks.
Giga here's a video the shows how tough these trees can be re: root disturbance of seedlings and 'teens':
so I think you're ok with what you've done...not that you're concerned anyways.
I'm surprised that's not a graft; I know Norway and white spruce was/is widely used as root stalk for ornamentals like blue spruce cultivars..but pictures can be misleading...and many CBS are avail. from seed.
I made some selective pruning on mine as well, shoots will be pruned in july, bud set in fall and I should be able to push the growth back.
I like the grow boxes you've made; soil mix looks good too, lets see a shot of the garden; looks like there's some nice projects going on
What time of year do you carry out this procedure? It appears to be early Summer like around June or July.

Yeah I was having that though too as I'm getting itchy to do something and this one was on my radar

The one criticizm I have is in the fact that you need to start developing growth in close to the trunk by cutting back the major branches. You should start doing that as soon as possible because it is only going to get more difficult to accomplish as time goes by.

This is true as I have a bunch of buds closer to the trunk, that where developed this last spring they will be used for the future branch, once there's enough to live on those parts the cuts will be made

I might have jumped the gun. I have one of these I cut back hard last winter, It blew up with tons of buds all the way back to the trunk and inner branches. They only budded tho never extended. I crossed my fingers and cut it back again to some some buds halfway out the branches a few weeks ago. I hope all the new buds that set this past summer open in the spring. Then I can start to develop some branching close to the trunk. Looking good giga
