Hey @Adair M , good morning.

You are a gentleman as well.
Thanks for the information.

I just don't know how to say I was misunderstood without it seeming like I have an axe to grind.

I absolutely love how we can come through the situations we get into without blood or ignores.

I have never lost any respect for you, I hope you know this.

Regards.

Sorce

I figured you had mis-understood 1) BVF’s post, and 2) how the NC Expo show operates.

It's really a small insignificant detail that I pulled from the text that y'all misunderstood.🤦🧘🤫😜🤯

FTI.

Eff the Internet.

Oh...my brain too! It's on overdrive. Way way way tired of ridiculousness, to a fault.

Yes, a few Gods and demi-gods, and a hand-full of assorted Buddhist and Hindu deities perhaps, but there are many others - perhaps darker beings as well, who sold their souls in exchange for the sacred, secret, alchemical, horticultural and artistic secrets of this craft. Do not doubt me in this ....

ACTUAL PICTURE OF BONSAI LOOK-ALIKE MASTER "SHUB-NIGGURATH"

(He loves azaleas and all things shohin)

This will be my first year attending the show, I live in Asheville so I am in the Blue Ridge club, I will not have a tree in the show because I have nothing of show quality. I have enjoyed meeting most of the regulars in the club and cannot wait to meet some of the people from BonsaiNut. Are there any tips or things i should know about the event this weekend. I just found out its not BYOB, which is kind of annoying because I have some really good beer I was looking to share. Is there good prebonsai material in the auction or at the vendors?

The show usually has good vendors. They set up in the gift shop which is at the bottom of the parking lot. The exhibit hall is at the top of the lot. There is an auction on Sunday afternoon. The permanent collection is worthwhile seeing, too.

Will you be there friday night for the opening ceremony?

Simple contest threads (challenges) for beginners is a great way to produce photo progressions and dialogue. Then there is a sense everyone is showing their progress good or bad.

I do not have the years of experience and time invested into trees that are wonderful show quality trees. And it seems that many times the comments regarding trees of lesser artistic value are spoken poorly of, rather than the excitement and enthusiasm that we all have for our trees. Why would anyone post something that will be ridiculed?

Sandwich your thoughts, positive:negative:positive

Ex: glad you put wire on your tree to start shaping, your bends are in the wrong places, make your bends where the wire is on the outside so it does not pinch the bark and has better support. (How to bend the wire is the most memorable advice I have read on BNut, thank you to who ever it was ;)

What we use BonsaiNut for is probably different for all of us. Chatting, bantering, viewing, lurking, trolling, knowledge, wisdom, advice, education............. this list goes on. So be that as it may. @Admin : The silly comments about "imperial masterpiece" and "yamadori" have nothing to do with knowledge and should be done away with. At first I thought individuals were stating what they loved to work on as a reference for those who prefered shohin, or mame. What novel idea to go to an expert on a size or type of tree that you prefer to work with!

I do not remember who had the comment of a "pecking" order. But there is definitely enough of an order of knowledgeable individuals in the forums. Those individuals who I see as knowledgeable, I stop and read what they have to say. They often post photos which show their skills. Those knowledgable individuals who post their trees which are not so great, even better, because that is where a majority of trees are (at least all of mine are). And a way to gain insight to creating better trees for us learners 😊

Find a challenge to inspire for a new growth of learning (both plants and personal). Build a challenge or contest which is simple enough for beginners to be a part of. Perhaps a species that has potential yet rarely used, and see if anyone can make knowledgeable progress. Bring back the red ribbon contest and a short time frame for styling from Thanksgiving to Christmas and then 6 months later (4th of July? ).

Long winded, had a few things to say,
Good Luck
I will likely continue to lurk and absorb knowledge (not enough warts to Troll) 😉

@Smoke
I'll play allong since I've hit the three years mark but I have a question, I've got a couple trees that I could post but I think all my tree's already have a thread were I keep track of my progression so would it still add anything if I start a new thread then?

Thank you for the reply. I'll tell you like I told others. I thought this was the place to offer feedback and suggestion. I thought this would be direct communication with Greg. I see now I am mistaken as so far Greg has been absent from this thread. I had no idea that a suggestion would start a war on how a forum should be run. My intention was to get people to work their trees, and provide an update every year as to how its progressing.

There are no bonsai police here, no one is being thrown off the site, no one is being banned, no one is going to be laughed at. People will be asked questions as to why they do certain things, and that can be intimidating to people that actually don't know why they do things to their trees. In my observations in doing training and workshops, most people enjoy learning tips and secrets and don't view them as bullying. But.... here they sure do.

If Bonsai God Ryan Neil came here and said the same things, people would bow and say thank you, if I say the same thing, I'm a trolling ass...
The difference is...he makes his living on you thinking he is the nicest guy alive, piss you off you don't spend the money for him to tell you what a great job you are doing. I come here and try to offer the same things all for free. I don't cut no slack, and I don't sugar coat things. Either do it right or I would say something in a Smoke workshop. Ask Adair, I'm sure Boon speaks up plenty. Again, remember Boon gets paid.

If any one here wishes to pay me 300.00 a day to talk about your tree, you can know I'll tell you what a good job your doing:D Whether it's a piece of shit or not...

I'll filter my answer from this reply then.
I am already doing what you are asking people to do.
please prove me wrong but I can't recall that in any thread about my tree's you have responded with those questions to help me improve myself or my tree's in any way like you describe happens at workshops.

This place you posted the thread in is indeed to

provide feedback and suggestions for the BonsaiNut Community forums.
Does that mean only the website owner should reply or also the community is allowed to give their tought on the matter?
if you want direct communication with Greg or anyone else trough bonsainut you should send them a message trough the private message system I know you ain't a fool so I know you are smart enough to expect people would read this and would also reply to it....

I don't think you are just trolling
I do like straight forward answers they might be blunt but at least they are honest!
Kinda reminds me of my grandpa ;)
I'd rather have someone tell me that my tree sucks as long as they also provide the info why they think it sucks so I can learn from that

If you do something poorly in a Boon workshop, Boon will let you know. Otherwise, how else would you know you’re doing something poorly? Isn’t the whole idea to learn how to do things better?

Here's the deal. If I told you the way to improve your tree was to cut off branch A, and shorten branch b by half, would you do it. yes or no?

FWIW I appreciate the advice you give me. Even though I don't always follow it or agree with suggestions I'm grateful for the act.

So....what your saying is that advice given is just that, and people are wasting their time to do the work of providing hours of work with virtuals that I have done personally for people here. Especially maples. I don't understand this philosophy at all.

I don't give advice to be appreciated, I expect someone to do it. It's a trust issue. If you never do what someone you trust says, how will you ever improve.

If Ryan looked at your tree and told you to cut off branch A and reduce B by half, would you do it?

If the answer is no, I don't get it.

Maybe people here need to start a caveat in the thread with this as the heading:
" I am showing my tree here for you to enjoy, if you have something nice to say, cool, if not I am not going to apply your comments to my tree. Thanks for looking"

Sure i might actually do that, but not without some explanation why you think I should do that otherwise I can follow that instruction a 100 times but learn nothing but pruning a branch of and shortening it

most people enjoy learning tips and secrets
its not all about telling someone to cut a branch off tough

If Ryan told you he thought you would have a better tree if you removed a branch would you?

You're so crotchety. Can't even accept gratitude. "Do as I say" implies that a)you're always right and b)that there's only one possibility for any given tree. Both are fallacious. Hell in most threads you'll have one person saying to do one thing and another saying to do something completely different. Real teaching isn't monkey see monkey do it is leading someone to a positive result. Learning is a journey not a destination. Just because someone doesn't take your advice doesn't mean they didn't learn from it. Not to mention the fact that people have different tastes.

Only if I wanted to. And I believe you: you don't get it. I respect your option and knowledge so I'm sure I'll ask for your advice in the future. If you can't accept that I might not follow it there's nothing I can do about that.
