I don't remember the GTFO part. Could you put that line in quotes for me please? My beef isn't with Walter, Adair or Vance. Those men have shared plenty and have never been asked to. Frankly it wasn't needed because they have much to give. There is a difference.
He's just upset because fewer and fewer people here are jumping through his hoops.
A while back during one of the bonsai mirai threads he demanded that people "show him how they've improved" from being mirai members. I know I told him I didn't owe him any proof and apparently others felt the same way, since no one jumped to answer his demand.
I will say this, though - I do agree with his assertion that the forum is going downhill. Lots of "one and done" posters now, posters who obviously haven't bothered to do any research on their own yet expect people to spoon feed them information (sometimes duplicating threads that were just discussed a few days or weeks ago), lots of jibber-jabber and noise taking over threads. There's less and less here that I find interesting.
Back to the original point of this post. It is a poor idea. If you want a different kind of forum, start one. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. I do think that there should be a bit more monitoring because of posts like this that just go on and on and are not helpful or instructional to anyone except those on the debate team. (it is very much like high school) I have opened this thread half a dozen times and just shrugged. But finally you drew me in to give my 2 cents. I will not be back to this thread.
I think smoke has a point because there are a lot of people saying a lot of things but no one is sharing their trees as photo evidence of their experiences. You can’t really know if you are getting good advice without knowing if that poster even owns a maple.
I would like to see more photos and instructional threads posted also tbh.
It shouldn’t be to much to ask of bonsai forum members.
It is why we are here right?
Especially from someone with the excellent design advice that Caddy has, and just plain good sense about bonsai in general.
Especially for newbs @Cadillactaste miss you!
Sorry...I would just search Al's posts on the topic I need...or send a personal message if not found. I wouldn't ask for multiple answers. Maybe early days...but no not really how I roll. I go to ones who know the species well.

I look at new posts...but feel these posts aren't needing my two cents. Appreciate the kind words. I feel as of late...I don't have as much to offer here.
So far....the same crowd is the most vocal. No one likes to have their tree talked about in a bad light. Me included, thats why I became better. Now there have been some very pointed comments made about my past history here. What no one seems to ever talk about is the legitimacy of my questions. I have never ( there are those that will disagree, but please share the proof) just ever come into a thread and told someone that their tree is shit. Ever. I may ask why they are doing what their doing, and they become defensive and then the thread goes to hell, cause they don't know anything and have nothing really to say in defence of their work and so just blow shit.
As an example, lets look at this thread. Very recent, and I only said one thing and the whole exchange of ideas stopped....Why?
Got this tree from Brent Walston @ Evergreen. I am thinking of trunk chopping next Spring just above the first branch and letting that be the new leader to create taper and then let it continue to grow. Is this a good idea? Any suggestions in preparing this tree to become a worthy bonsai. Thanks...
There are some points in the OP that I agree with and some I disagree with. As a newbie to the forum I have joined in with non bonsai talk because I thought it was part of the norm here. I enjoy discussing such things with people from all over to get different perspectives. That said, I wouldn’t miss it if it were not part of the forum so I understand the view point there.
As for the tree thing, posting progressions or GTFO, there is a somewhat elitist element to it which, as total beginner, I would be wary of posting trees. Even in three years there would be an expectation of progress as a bonsai practitioner that may be unattainable for some and as such the fear of derision because skills aren’t “up to scratch” wouldn’t be fair.
Not everybody throws themselves into things at full throttle as others do and certainly, people don’t always have the talent so why should they have to subject themselves to public criticism for a pastime which is not meant to be anything more than personal enjoyment?
As far as the trident thread is concerned I think I understand what you were aiming for in the expression of ideas through photographic evidence and not just descriptions, which isn’t always easy for us noobs to grasp. I’m not sure the thread stopped because it was you who posted, however, or because people are too chicken to back up their advice or whatever. Threads just die sometimes.
The first thing I looked at when joining BNut was the resources section so articles with pictures to back up or explain ideas more clearly so it would certainly be valuable to have more of the sort of thing available.

Last week I elected to chop this first year maple down due to a concern about fungus action up at the apex. My question is, since the chop is at the complete wrong time of the year, how do I deal with all this backbudding? Should I wait till it's a little colder and just rub the buds off to...
www.bonsainut.com
Have a look at that thread. I had issues with what I worried may be fungus, couldn't find any info so did something I knew was not "optimal"for the tree, but would definitely deal with the issue; and I knew it was the wrong time of year. So I proceeded just to ask advice on how to pull the little tree through winter, knowing that it was in a bad spot. You can see the very first thing Smoke does is come in and just start trying to make an ass of me. Not once was there truly helpful advice from him. He just spent his time trying to be an asshole. I guess he considers himself being an asshole ok since it was "on topic". What about this says "come join us"?
For one who makes a whole kerfuffle on the forum bitching about trolling it sure is rich.

It seems to me that it would be a good move to add some minimum requirements to BonsaiNUT. After three years of joining, one would have to provide an article about a tree that they have taken from nothing to something. Then once a year thereafter.
Or else what? The implication is that you would no longer meet the minimum requirements so would be removed. Now all of them do that anyway but I was making a point that if someone of their caliber did not meet your "once a year" requirement then would have to leave by the very rules you are stipulating.

I'm sure we'd all like to see that. The sticking point is whether or not to require people to do that.
But I love seeing pictures, articles, and advice. I'm slow at learning bonsai and don't have a lot of disposable income so rarely start with good stock. I'm sure I'm an example of someone who doesn't belong but I want to and contribute what I can.
