Marco Invernizzi's new tool - "Ichiban"

Ms Vic,

I must admit I also read your previous question as being rather insulting, not just to Marco but to anyone who endorsed Ichiban without paying for it. That's what prompted my previous question.

I have no opinion on the tool whatsoever as I haven't tried it out as yet or even seen it. Maybe I will someday but as someone who does a fair bit of cooking and likes the best steel/knives $350 is nothing for good steel http://www.japanesechefsknife.com/KDSeries.html and you might notice they are sold out with a 6month to 1 year waiting list.

My comment was obviously ill-phrased to a great degree. My question was not to insult anyone, I even said in the post that it wasn't a challenge in the least. I suggested that he should get some unsolicited opinions- if there were none, that's all.

Maybe I am strange in believing that someone who has it, that wasn't given it, might be a somewhat more valid opinion for me.

So considering that I have a huge amount of respect for Attila, and have great faith in his balanced opinion... I look forward, in all seriousness, to his assessment once he has his.

To anyone who believed I would insult the body of artists who have given a solicited opinion, please take what you know of me and how I conduct myself, and the post itself, and balance it one against the other. I'm not given to random insults... and if it appeared that way, then I apologize to those who might have been reflected badly upon, or who read it in that light.

Sincerely,

Victrinia

Well, Marco was successfully chased off the board.

But let's not try to chase Victrinia as well. It would be unfair.

Instead, those who are interested in using Ichiban, this is not a bad time to send Marco an e-mail and place an order. How about you, Ms Vic.....?(ok, I'll pay for shipping - seriously :)).

Don't worry Attila... I don't have plans to leave... if I am thought of as a knuckle head by JC or Mom - or whomever, then I accept that. There is always a cost for expressing an opinion, even if my opinion was evolving as the whole thing was going... mostly of Marco more than the Tool.

As to the tool. If I get one, I'll be sure to compare notes with you on it. I thank you for the offer... that's very sweet of you. :D

Kindest regards,

Victrinia

I will gladly comply, and I promise to be a tough critic. Marco said that the tool is on its way.
And yes, the offer stands.

I can hardly believe Vic chased anyone anywhere. I read her questions as that, questions. Should we have to tiptoe around the "experts" so as not to frighten them?

Since Vic is a student of one of the foremost American bonsai artists, and is a pretty solid bonsaiist herself who doesn't scare so easily, I'd say we broke even.

Forget the stupid bent wire cutter...I would give a "C" note for a decent bottle of jin fluid about now.

Now this is something someone should be thinking about....

I'll agree that Marco left these boards of his own free will. Nobody made him leave, except Marco himself. I know I was a bit rough on him too, but I don't think I'm the reason he left either. I think his worst enemy here was his inability to control what he was saying. That's probably a good reason for him to take a break from posting here.

The promotion for his Ichiban is pretty much as done as it can be at this point, at least here. This is why I feel he's probably not gone forever. He'll probably be back when he has something new to promote.

I've taken to hording it frankly... I've got three big bottles of concentrate at the moment. Good thing Tom has some... there is at least hope then. :)

No, but is a little civility too much to ask for?

Yep.

BTW, I'll stand in line before Ms. Vic if anyone wants to point a finger. I was very specific and direct on the "wanker" thread as to what I thought about his advertising method. He was the one who tried to make it about everything else. I wasn't biting on his diversions, nor was I crying a tear for his drama. He made mountains out of mole hills and got defensive over things nobody said. If he wants to be the false martyr than he can. I am not going to loose sleep over it. I'm also not going to let Vic take the entire fall. There are plenty of us who were up front with Marco. It is Marco's decision to tuck his tail and leave whining. Don't take it out on Vic:cool:

I thing we all missed an opportunity to have Marco here to help with our trees, it's too bad things worked out the way it did, bitching about the price of his tool, If everyone would have been civil, you could have posted a tree for Marco to help you out, now that chance is gone forever. I'm not blaiming anyone for what happened, but we all suffer for the rudeness of a few. Having watched him style my trees, I think he is one of the best in the world, and that's not to take anything away from the other masters and artists, whom I've never had the pleasure to watch.

Why in the world would he get defensive about being called an idiot........

That is probably nearly true. If he is not one of the best now he will be one day. No doubt.

Specifically an "advertising idiot" Harry. I clarified that on the other thread more than once. He is not a bonsai idiot, nor a web design idiot, nor a tool design idiot,........

It takes us right back to what I said, "Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones". He called us "wankers" first. I said he was an advertising idiot for using vulger language, particulary in light of the relationship of his tool to the Masakuni family name. The word is quite vulger in Japan, more so than it is in the US. That was an idiotic decision in my opinion. Very specific, very clear. I never said a thing about the Ichiban, its price, its value, his skill, or his value as a human being. He kept trying to make it about all that. I am not about to take any blame for any of his perceived persecution. If he can't take being called an advertising idiot then he shouldn't call us all masturbating idiots. Duh.

I'm tired of this thread and I don't want to get in a name calling contest with you, it wouldn't solve anything, so rather than piss you off, I'm tucking my tail between my legs and fading away into the night.

We should be asking ourselves though, if someone completely unknown came to these boards and started saying the kinds of things Marco has said, how should we react? Should Marco really be treated better for it because of his status or ability?

Funny Harry...I wasn't pissed off even once with Marco, nor was I personally offended by the word wanker. After all, I have taught sex ed before and crack up at all the funny masturbating jokes my adolescent son comes up with. I am just very straight up about what I think. Tuck if you wish. I'm not gonna chase after you.

"No, but is a little civility too much to ask for?"

No, but if you call people names from the get go, civility usually goes out the window. Marco is responsible for his behavior, not us. It was Marco's decision to pick up his marbles and go home in a huff, just as it was his decision to have online temper tantrums.

It is too bad, but we missed nothing. We did suffer the rudeness of a few, including Marco. I really hate double standards. Why is he given a pass on his insufferable adolescent temperament? Oh, yeah, he's European and dates centerfolds:rolleyes:... We don't understand...

Forgive us, we're simply unwashed Americans, we're like that, not suffering foolish behavior lightly...

The bonsai community is very small and I believe that we need to support people like Marco who have so much talent and are using that talent to innovate and take bonsai to the next level.

Let's make this thing a winner so maybe the guy does Ichiban II, publishes a book or does a DVD so maybe we can all learn a thing or two. OK Chowder Heads feel free to respond to this message, I'll be waiting for your snide remarks.
