I literally have all the parts I need to make my own potters wheel. But now I'm considering having a custom wheel head made to my specs. It would be a bit bigger than my current wheel, but smaller than an average wheel. I just need to find a machine shop that has the aluminum to turn the wheel head.Yes please.
I wonder if you could 3d print such a part.I literally have all the parts I need to make my own potters wheel. But now I'm considering having a custom wheel head made to my specs. 3D print making has it uses and benefits. However I don't think a pottery wheel head would be worth it making it by a printed machine. There is not one company that I'm aware of that is using a printed wheel head in production.I wonder if you could 3d print such a part.
I know you know me well enough to know this is not a criticism and is intended only as advice.I wish I had a slightly bigger wheel so I could start making some proper shohin sized pots.
I think you enjoy tinkering with making wheels as much as you enjoy making pots.So here are all the parts minus the new wheel head I want to have made and of course the wood to make the case to house it all.
I'll probably start a new thread when I actually start the new pottery wheel build.

@penumbra thank you for the advice. You and @ABCarve have the experience and knowledge that I respect. The mini potters wheel I've been using since the start of this year is really a joke in itself. I've managed to work around it's flaws to make my pots. But this potters wheel I want to build is something personal. Something to prove to myself that it can be made and that I made it myself............then I can check the block.I know you know me well enough to know this is not a criticism and is intended only as advice.
Sell some of your pots and buy a real potters wheel. Then you will wonder why you ever played with a toy wheel. I think it is amazing what you have been able to accomplish on a wheel that was made for kids and bored old people. I would never have been able to do what you have done with a wheel that was never intended for any serious work. I would have dumped it at the flea market or given it to a young child. Your work is big league and you need to step up. There are a lot of used wheels that come up, but they disappear just as rapidly.
I hate to see your talent wasted and you know that stepping up will enable you to do things you can only dream of now. If you are using a proper wheel with plenty of torque, you can turn out a dozen unfinished pots in 4 hours. Then you take take your own time and pleasure in finishing them. If you are in my area, get in touch with me and I will see that you get to use a real potters wheel.
I also think that someone with your talents could do some serious hand building.![]()
That is a great idea. With your attention to detail you will make some outstanding pieces. After Batch #2 is complete I'm considering taking a break from the mini wheel and transition over to mame hand built pots for Batch #3.
I'm curious to see what I can make without the mini wheel. That is a great idea. With your attention to detail you will make some outstanding pieces.
