Mame pots on a mini pottery wheel

Yes please.
I literally have all the parts I need to make my own potters wheel. But now I'm considering having a custom wheel head made to my specs. It would be a bit bigger than my current wheel, but smaller than an average wheel. I just need to find a machine shop that has the aluminum to turn the wheel head.

I wonder if you could 3d print such a part.

3D print making has it uses and benefits. However I don't think a pottery wheel head would be worth it making it by a printed machine. There is not one company that I'm aware of that is using a printed wheel head in production.

I wish I had a slightly bigger wheel so I could start making some proper shohin sized pots.
I know you know me well enough to know this is not a criticism and is intended only as advice.
Sell some of your pots and buy a real potters wheel. Then you will wonder why you ever played with a toy wheel. I think it is amazing what you have been able to accomplish on a wheel that was made for kids and bored old people. I would never have been able to do what you have done with a wheel that was never intended for any serious work. I would have dumped it at the flea market or given it to a young child. Your work is big league and you need to step up. There are a lot of used wheels that come up, but they disappear just as rapidly.
I hate to see your talent wasted and you know that stepping up will enable you to do things you can only dream of now. If you are using a proper wheel with plenty of torque, you can turn out a dozen unfinished pots in 4 hours. Then you take take your own time and pleasure in finishing them. If you are in my area, get in touch with me and I will see that you get to use a real potters wheel.
I also think that someone with your talents could do some serious hand building. 🌓

So here are all the parts minus the new wheel head I want to have made and of course the wood to make the case to house it all.

I'll probably start a new thread when I actually start the new pottery wheel build.

I think you enjoy tinkering with making wheels as much as you enjoy making pots. ;)

@penumbra thank you for the advice. You and @ABCarve have the experience and knowledge that I respect. The mini potters wheel I've been using since the start of this year is really a joke in itself. I've managed to work around it's flaws to make my pots. But this potters wheel I want to build is something personal. Something to prove to myself that it can be made and that I made it myself............then I can check the block.

My current plan is to sell enough pots to buy the Skutt test kiln. After that will be a table top "real" potters wheel. The real wheel will allow me to step up in size with my pots. I'm hoping the new potters wheel I make will suffice for the mame pots. The motor is twice as big as the one in the mini wheel I'm using now. The motor is rated with enough torque and the pulleys will reduce the speed substantially and the potentiometer will allow me to dial in a specific speed after the reduction. Of course this is all ideas until the rubber hits the road.

Batch #2 should get the kiln. I'm really close now on the PIT-EKA mini pottery wheel build now. I just need to have the new head made.
