Mame pots on a mini pottery wheel

Thanks everyone! I really do appreciate it. I tried to avoid Instagram all these years, and now I ended up making an account because of the pots.

I can’t say enough great things about my @Pitoon pot!

I purchased one of these pots a couple weeks ago. It was a fun experience just to unwrap the package - the little box, stamped piece of leather cloth, and of course the prize inside! My wife was sitting next to me and even commented on how artfully it was presented! This is now one of my favorite little pieces and has a spot on my desk until I find the perfect little tree for it.

Thumbs up for sure!

I'm really looking forward in seeing what you plant in it.

It is beautiful as it is and if the glaze works, nothing will have changed in this regard.
I think it would look really good unglazed. I've noticed from Batch #1 it's kind of risky to glaze with these feet as the glaze can pool in and loose a bit of detail.

A couple months ago while looking for something on Amazon, I came across this mini pottery wheel. Despite the reviews of it being under powered I thought it could be usable to make mame pots. So yesterday I finally had some free time to really try it out.

At the end of my testing of the unit I was able to produce this mame pot. I also burnished the pot once the clay became leather hard. But I can attest that this little pottery wheel will make a huge mess. With no splash guard, once water gets on the pot it whips the water in all directions. It was also a bit challenging to center the pot to trim it up some. Also the motor is extremely underpowered, this made it difficult to do anything with the clay. The moment my finger touched the clay it would stop moving, and if my fingers were wet it would whip water all over the place. But overall I think this pot came out fairly nice for the first time using this mini pottery wheel. I'll probably make another this weekend and post some more pics. Now I just have to get my kiln up and running.

cute little pot, well done

Well regardless. The attention in care and detail is evident as usual my friend.
Thanks, I really appreciate the kind words from another craftsman. I just hope it survives 2 rounds in the kiln.

I wish I had a slightly bigger wheel so I could start making some proper shohin sized pots.

All in good time. I’m sure you’ll make it happen at some point and will be successful with it when you do.
