How can you handle the large bonsai?

If you have very large trees you need good friends. If you have no friends you need muscles. If you have no muscle you need brain. If you have brain you get smaller trees.:p

Sometimes trees we have been working with for years tend to do what we do as people, we put on weight. I have a Larch that I no longer can show because it now weighs slightly less than I do somewhere over two-hundred-pounds. I can lift it but with my hernia it is not a good idea. That does not mean I am going to get rid of the tree.

I can feel yours! That's a reason I put this post here, so that someone will benefit!

To Si Nguyen: I understand that we need some good friends to help but it's really difficult to arrange the friend who can come over to help due to the conflict schedules; and when the proper time for transplanting, I don't think I can wait!

For my situation, the Hoyer lift is an excellent helper who is an unconditional servant. He never refused my request! Whatever I want, he help! :)

By the way, I just transplanted 2 of my crabapples this morning. Now I take a rest a little, then will transplant a big flowering pear this afternoon with the help from one of my best friends, the Hoyer lift!! ;)

This afternoon, I transplanted this flowering pears. It was in 15 gallon pot for a while! It was root bound! Lot of work had to do on its rootage! I don't think its branches would be safe without using my friend - Hoyer lift!

definitely a handy machine :)

and very nice looking trees!

This morning, I transplanted this large pomegranate. Again, I had to use my best friend to help me out! I counted the time the tree was removed from the pot until I watered it. It took me 50 minutes! With this friend, I think I can handle my large bonsai until I am 100 years old! :) No sweat at all!

Going to the CHIROPRATOR tomorrow for this guy. image.jpg

This is my next project!
I got this olive from my old friend who collected it few years ago!
It's really heavy (I guess its weight is more than 150 lbs easily!).

That pomegranate is fantastic - really nice tree :)

Weights

I'm 69 and today I am going to shop for some weights, thanks Walter.

This is pretty inexpensive and works well for moving our Sulcata Tortoise as well. It is not "Industrial" quality but it is stored indoors and never sees bad weather so it durable enough for us. Also comes in very handy when unloading supplies and material from the pickup truck...

Grimmy ;)

This is strange timing Grimmy. I just picked this up last week, same thing, but goes up to 34.5" which is the max ht. of trees on stands I have. http://www.harborfreight.com/1000-lb-capacity-hydraulic-table-cart-60438-9328.html

It's awesome! I absolutely love it, and picked it up locally to save a ton on shipping. No more having to try to find someone to help me move my bigger trees.

WOW! All this makes me appreciate my favorite size even more.

Taking care of the small bonsai in my area is consuming a lot of time and effort!

The weather is really nice in my area this time of the year. So, I pulled this guy out to transplant it. It is Yatsubusa JBP. It had been stayed in the 3 gallon plastic pot for almost 20 years. The soil has never been changed! It surprised me that I didn't see any root exiting from the pot drainage holes. However, I was sure that it was root bound since the water was drained so slow ( few minutes). It was amazing that the tree was still growing very strong!

Again, I had to ask my best friend,Hoyer lift, for giving me a hand to attack to this tree! ;)

I does not like the current pot, but I have no choice at this time!
