HorseloverFat’s Autumn Collection “Lab Rats”.

So a lifelong friend/illegitimate brother of mine ALSO happens to be starting out (this last growth season) his “TinyTree” journey. He is also a member of my lil’ TinyTree study group.

He had told me that he was going to be unable to participate in Autumn collection. Knowing that his interests are piquing at the moment.. I decided to collect a couple specimens for him.

(DNR loves it when you dig Elaeagnus ;) )

So I happened upon two umbellatas that I thought would suite him nicely.

I LEFT DESIGN OPTIONS OPEN as they are not MY decisions to make.

I had to drive BACK with a bucket of earth to fill my holes...... worth it.

This European Cranberry (🤣) and it’s corresponding thread.. collected today.B75B7FE4-62D3-4450-B781-E3A116EAD78B.jpeg

(ALL specimens are instantly treated with my “import elixir” for pests and spores ;) )

That’s so sweet of you to go out collecting to encourage him to keep on his tree journey. 👍

He’s still in the “magical phase”... I try to “keep that going” as long as I can whilst teaching anyone ANYTHING... and his interests are growing RIGHT before winter... had to throw some coal on that fire.

🤓

Get them Elaeagnus out of the state parks. Yes.
*cocks shovel/spade*
I have my orders sir!
🤣🤣

Seriously, though.. i could dig a handful each season, spend 3-5 years developing them... even with above average mortality rates suffered (longshot :) ) i’d have an adequate “prebonsai” (for lack of a more fitting term) stock to gift around... spread the Elaeagnus Family (TinyTree-related) love.

🤓

The Marshal ALSO said that Fall was the best time (for the ecosystem) to remove the Elaeagnus.. I didn’t inquire further due to “tree-work tunnel-vision”.. but I wonder why?

Who am I kidding? I will most likely collect trees until my space and care begin to suffer.... but as of right now.. THIS is ALL i do. 🤓

My latest “stick-in-a-pot” acquisition...

A European Spindle-Tree... collected/saved in/from an eroded area.

Celtis Laevigata -Sugarberry.. a hackberry... whoah!

The boys wanted to bring him home... and I didn’t have one...took me a lot longer than usual to dig (for a specimen this size)
