Bonsai Stick Figures with special guest Rick Martin

I'm betting he was a Bernie Sanders supporter so I chalk it up to that. It's the way of America lately and I/we have to live with it.
Actually the paranoia and unwillingness to admit he made a mistake would lead me to believe he is a Trump supporter. :)
Love the lesson by the way.

Smoke, what a help to any new person. Thank you. I don't know very much about bonsai, but I will try to share this with the club I belong to. Kindness like this go a long way. I will try to pass it forward, hopefully others will also. I don't post my per nursery plants , have a hard time with taking pictures and getting them online. Trying to teach all kids i meet, when someone is kind say thank you, and just pass kindness forward it will always be the slowest lesson learned. thanks for your post a new be.

Thank you. That post took four hours to compile. Making the drawings, scanning to computer, adding lines in paint, and what have you. A new person that takes away something from a heartfelt post means a lot and I appreciate it. Almost makes me want to continue to contribute things like this in the future. I really felt compassion for the guy. There is nothing more frustrating than a no reply. Yet, it is so hard with posting a tree with so little going for it that anything said will be met with resentment. I have no idea what the take away with Rick will be, but I hope he took away that this post was not really to help with what he has, but to help with future purchases in material and what to look for in trunks branches and how to best apply what he learned to the choice at the nursery.

Time will tell.

I had him here a couple Springs ago. I took him collecting and showed him my trees. Granted I have no show stoppers but he could see what to look for.
Vance also invited him to come down with me to meet him and work on trees.
I also gave him an American elm and a procumbens that I had staked up for a couple years. Not sure what happened with those trees for sure. He told me they were stolen.
Apparently he is a guy that takes things the wrong way.
It's kind of sad really. I think he's someone who has been picked on in the past or been made fun of or something like that and now he thinks people are always picking on him.
I hope he comes back. All were trying to do is help him.

Rick's takeaway of the OP Title is typical of an individual with a serious problem of Low Self Esteem & Mega Immaturity...
It's highly unlikely he will mature anytime soon, he does change his tune occasionally after absorbing the forum comments.
I think its time for a Moderator to close this Forum...

To share a story:

I'm a TKD Master... no really, I have a cert from Korea stating as much. When I was finished competing I started coaching, teaching, and refereeing. I was reffing a national match under scrutiny by the meanest, most strict SOB I've met on the circuit; Chung. During one of our few potty breaks, he pulls me aside and starts the reaming of a lifetime of what I thought was nothing. I mean little stuff. How my thumb rested on my pointer finger, how my shoulders weren't even when starting a match, how my shoelaces weren't tucked into my sneakers! And I'm standing there, getting it good in front of thousands of spectators and competitors while trying not to pee myself.

After said reaming, the other officials from the same ring rush over to me before the next matches begin. They are DRIPPING with jealousy!
"What did he say?"
"How are you supposed to hold your thumb then?"
"We should tuck in our laces"

Most poignant: "I can't believe Master Chung gave you a 1 on 1 right here in the middle of the tournament!"

That's when I realized that I wasn't getting chewed out. It wasn't a slight at all. It was an honor. This highly regarded veteran gave enough a damn to teach me, on his terms, in his words, on my shortcomings. Wow. Thanks Chung!

Later, after the event, after drinks, he wraps his arm around me. I had to pee again instantly. He whispers, "I know your father, good man."

Last I saw of Chung as I didn't ref much following that event.

I hope the parallel is an easy one to draw @RickMartin
Sometimes life lessons, bonsai lessons, or TKD reffing lessons don't come with a spoonful of sugar. You take it the hard way or lose out on an opportunity to grow. As artists, as people.

@Smoke, nice of you to donate your time to Mr. Martin here. Shame it wasn't better received. I'll be posting more in the near future. If you'd like to make me pee myself, I'd gladly take that beating.

Cheers,

B

I appreciated it, I appreciate you, and I appreciate the time and effort it took for you to do it. Don't stop making those kind of posts, try not to let the appearance of the self serving cause to abandon good technique and it teaching. I'm sorry Rick can't seem to stop shooting himself in the ass. I just hope at this point to avoid the back splater.

4th degree black belt in the ITF.
Way to go. I never made quite that far.
Just black belt. Took 3 years. Should have stayed in.

Yeah man. We own a school so it was not really a choice... Parents are both 7th, Kukkiwon certified.
And it's not "just" black belt. That's hard work. Respect.

Unbelievable post! Thanks for sharing it.

It was so hard work I lost 115 pounds in the first year. Started at 315 and ended up at 198. My master was a little guy. He liked to get me in front of the class to demonstrate different techniques.
Now,well I'm back to over 300 again. Really have been thinking about going back for another gold stripe.
Owning a school means you were going like every day.

Yes sir, I was. Until I spent more time with other people's brats more than my own... then the injury.. then the surgery.. Hopefully by spring I'll get back in there. I hope you decide to do the same.

Cheers.
