No, Dave’s tree is a JBP.JWP? It's cool!
I had a smallish JWP grafted onto JBP... over protected it during it's first winter with me- put it in a cellar walk out- and mice literally girdled it overnight. Done!@Dav4 did you ever have a JWP during your time in Massachusetts?
Give a shout to John Romano, and see what he says.Think I'm running into some problems @october ran into with fungus and/or other issues. I wouldn't think care requirements for a grafted JWP would be too different from a "regular" JBP.
The small one needs a repot into dryer soil! With all that happened in my backyard over the weekend, these two youngsters didn’t want to stay home today… But who could blame them. They got a little cleaned up and ready for another growing season. The Tall, skinny one has a one-sided root base, But I think it will be OK because of the literati design. I deliberately left a few extra buds at the top as insurance. They will get removed this spring as the tree starts to grow.

It needs a root graft and a little age, but it has good bones. That stout little one in the terra cotta in my idea of a good time.

Just what you need: another tree to fall into your bonsai garden!Another super slow pre-Christmas day at work, so I brought these to win to evaluate. The one on the right was initially wired out to be a literati, but I think it is better suited for a shohin at this point. It’s going to get repotted and a route graft or to the spring. The one on the left, a Japanese red Pine, is just a flat out mess. It was also wired out to be a literati. I cut it back with a new Trunkline in mind. It’s going to get repotted this spring, and might get a root graft… Or it might get thrown over my fence into the woods.
